They say exercise is good for you. My doctor has been encouraging me to exercise. My very good looking neighbor has encouraged me to ride my bike while he runs. Well tonight I rode my mountain bike to the path where he will run. He ran and I rode from one city to the next and we turned around to head home. We were only travelling 6 miles round trip. The sun was setting but plenty of visibility I thought. The next thing I realized was my bicycle was heading to the drop off. I tried to stop but over the edge I went. I fell about 6-7 feet down wooded incline. I am sure in the morning I will think I hit all the trunks of trees.
My left arm is bandaged and I am keeping ice on the large hemotoma. I have great range of motion so nothing is broken. We had to walk 1 1/2 miles to the parking lot where he loaded my bike into the trunk of his car and he was willing to take me to the hospital and stay with me.

Instead we went to my sister's house the RN and she dressed my wounds. He was afraid I had been seriously hurt and thought it had been his fault. What a sweet man. While at my sister's her boyfriend said way to go Lance. We all had a good laugh.
I know tomorrow I will be very stiff and bruised when I return to jury duty. Of course I am looking forward to the sympathy I will receive. I must say Arturo took very good care of me tonight. My eunuch bones are intact but the 18 speed mountain bike did not fare so well. As Boy George used to sing "I'll tumble for you".
I am sure glad I have listened about the importance of taking clacium. I wonder if the outlook would have been different if I had not been taking calcium. Please protect your bones.

Sorry you got hurt. I hope it won't be too bad in the morning.
Say, you don't suppose they'd let you out of jury duty because of your injuries and you could come to the MOM do ya?

You WILL be sore in the morning. Take good care of yourself - ice, painkillers, etc. I'm glad that nothing was seriously hurt.

tugon ... i can -so- relate! even though it was 20 yr ago when riding my mt bike i took a belly flop 6 foot out and 4 foot down into a 4 inch deep mud hole.
the worst hurt was both legs as they hit a small tree limb on the solid ground surrounding the mud. The three guys i was riding with laughed till they saw i was gasping for breath. Clearly my breathing improved and the pain subsided but i never did try jumping down dirt trail paths again.
Thanks for the recollection, and i trust you mend quickly

I am
glad to here you were not seriously hurt. That is the most important thing.
You should still have it looked at by a hospital. Shock and embarrassment from an injury can mask the extent of damage sometimes. You can't be too careful. I also applaud your participation in jury duty. All to many citizens go to great lengths to avoid it.
As for boy George: he will do a lot more than "tumble" for you.

Drinking tea and waiting for the Ibuprofen to kick in and help with the stiffness. I have been thinking about the local ice house a lot and how good it might feel to lie on a bed of ice. I have never taken a prescription pain killer before but thinking it might be a good idea. Next a hot shower to loosen me up a little more.
I was talking with Arturo and I said I could not believe how upset he was over my tumble. He explained that he had trouble finding me in the dark. He had also been shouting my name and I must have been unresponsive for awhile. He said when he found me he did not like the looks of how my body was twisted on the ground. He was getting ready to call 911 when I finally responded. Having heard that I am feeling very lucky this morning as I get ready for work. I was also lucky to have him with me. I told him he was my hero.
Of course the talk is now that my next bike should be an adult three wheeler. I hope it will come with a flowered basket on the front. My bike seems to only have the handlbars twisted and a bent rim so that can be fixed. Next time I ride will be in the daylight hours and will be after some short trips to get reaquainted with cycling. At 52 I do not have as good a balance as I did when youg.

Hematoma should be examined by a Dr. I had a bike accident 40 years ago which resulted in a groin hematoma, which inflammed, which resulted in an infection in my left testicle, which resulted in surgery, which resulted in complete removal of the epididymus, sterility, and atrophy in the left testicle.
Forty years ago I didn't like having testicles, but didn't have the balls to insist the Dr. just remove it instead of butchering it and returning it into the scrotum. I would have felt much better the past four decades just being without it than being the owner of a malformed pint sized ball.
Anyway, enough about me. Don't take hematoma lightly. Internal injuries can be invisible and have a way of causing big problems if not properly treated quickly.

Hi Tugon,
I am really glad you are OK and seem to have survived your misadventure with the bicycle unscathed. Sounds like your accident could have turned out to be much more serious. You were very lucky. Please be more careful in the future, my friend.
Hugs,
Danya
