XY-n

Post by JesusA (imported) »

Paolo has done it again! XY-n is a great science fiction novel, better than most of those that actually see print in mainstream literature. It was a full year in the writing - about what a professional, full-time author would require for a piece of this length and complexity. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, even for those who don't especially like science fiction.

The characters are well developed and compelling enough that you begin to identify with them. You will care about them and their fates. The plot has enough twists and turns and miscues to drag you through the story anxious to discover what comes next. Chapter 14 neatly ties all the loose ends together in a very satisfying way.

Go back and start reading with XY-n, part 1. It will take a ream of paper, but you might even want to print it out to keep (from the printer friendly fomat). You won't be disappointed. This is a great read!

Jesus,

I just want to say thank you for this thread. Probably because of the time differential, stories sometimes appear 'late' and if it had not been for you I would have totally missed the last part of Paolo's great story.

Sci-Fi is not a genre which I read much, but I agree that Paolo has written a truly great work of fiction which transcends any particular category. Thank you, Paolo.

LOL

PS I had better go back into the archive and see if I have missed any parts of the other epic: The Tribes.

Master Waddie,

I think that you may have to move sideways a little. You know that I have always had the highest regard for your writing, but my post of last night was before I had actually read the final chapter of Paolo's story.

My God! I cannot remember when I last read something as powerful as that last chapter. Absolutely mind blowing!

PS any chance of something new from you? Or are you still revising T3B.

LOL to you both.

Hi All,

I don’t normally read the gay stories and had it not been for Jesus’s words on the matter I might have missed XY-n altogether.

And that would have been my loss because XY-n is an awesome work of science fantasy. Tolkien-like, it is brilliant in conception and all the details are beautifully thought out in the terrible fantasy world of Paolo’s creation. Having created such a world Paolo adheres to his own rules and achieves consistency.

The characters are all real, no cardboard here. Interestingly, it seemed to me that Paolo has great sympathy and kindness toward all his characters. Certainly he understands them and their motivation. It shows in the writing.

The story for the most part rolls along nicely and holds interest all the way through. Straight guys may be inclined to skim on the gay scenes but be careful if you do because the story often advances through them. In any case this work is a lot more than just gay sex. It is big and deep enough to be an allegory for all mankind.

My congratulations and thanks to Paolo for a really splendid contribution. I think it deserves a wider readership than these archives.

..... to everyone. It's always easy to lose interest in a long story. I'm grateful to those who didn't.
