Hey! Is the Chat down? Anyone else having trouble connecting to it. I have always been able to get right on it in the past, though, I haven't been on in a while. Thanks for any info!

Hi ... Logged in at 10:12AM CDT with no problem. Did use an IRC client to access then tried the web interface (its Java) and it worked too.

I too have experienced outages from time to time that others couldn't confirm. No real idea what might be the issue for you, but will check back to see if you have had success. If you do read this, please leave info on how you access the chat (Java/IRC) and what platform you use (Mac/PC) as i for one am far better delving into Mac issues ;) ... Hope to see you in chat soon - markle

... i don't suppose today is related to previous chat issues, but from my casa i haven't been able to access the chat on either server (irc) or via Java since about noon (CDT) ... there has to be some larger issue and i cant speculate at all what it might be. Did speak to MacWolf a few minutes ago who confirmed an outage there as well.

Night from IL ... markle

Unfortunately, at the moment we're experiencing temporary outages of the main chat server. However, we do have a backup server in place. Normally, the Java chat automatically fails over to the backup when this occurs.

However, I have heard from several people that for some reason (I suspect ISP interference) they are unable to connect to the backup server. Unfortunately I'm rather at a loss as to how to correct this issue at the moment. With luck, we shall get the main server back up and running very soon, and be free from these troublesome issues.

For those of you who do not know the back server address, it is: eachat.hopto.org Port 7000.

Thanks IE ... MacWolf (c. 23:00 CDT Thursday,) did say the backup server connected, but i have as yet had no success here in the Heartland. :( FWIW, i too had some notion it's ISP issues and will try others (ISPs) as the day progresses. Thanks again, markle

This past afternoon i did attempt to connect on each of the two servers via IRC using the (AFAIK) same settings that have served well for quite some time. i did so from a different ISP than i have at home (where i am now) w/o success. Tomorrow, i will try from at least one additional ISP and see if that works. Am beginning to wonder if my app has somehow gone totally mad ... but i think that of everyone save me and thee on most matters, and i have reservations of thee ... er ... ah ... i want my chat back :(

my best, markle

P.S. another channel on a totally different server works fine, so if its some sort of blocking, it might be -very- specific :( :(

I can get it though with difficulty, through the regular backup doesn't work for me either.

For those who cannot connect to the backup:

Consider trying a different IRC program. This is what did it for me. I use Trillian, which lets me into the main server when it is working, but for some reason will not let me into the backup. So I got the idea to try a different program (mIRC), and I am in chat now as I type this :)
