Re: Frying your brain
OH MY GOD!! Thankyou Jesus! (That may sound like I am having some sort of religious experience, but no, I mean the Jesus here, not the other Jesus.)
Thanks! I never in a million years would have thought that a cell phone put our THAT much radiation. I can hardly wait to try this out myself now. For the time being, I will be putting my cell phone on "speaker" whenever I talk on it, don't want to be close to that level of heat. WOW!

Saw a show think it was on either TLC or Discovery on how this is done. It's not the cell phones, but rather part of a microwave oven being under the table.

Re: Frying your brain
It is derived from a days-gone-by parlor trick in which a person demonstrated their "mind Power" by causing popcorn kernels to pop by staring at them. Actually it was done with a concealed hot plate. Using part of a microwave oven is a brilliant refinement. --FLO--

Whew. I thought I was going to have to quit carrying my cell phone in my pants pocket.

If it is a part of microwave oven under the table - then it is really unsafe...
At least I am going to check if this is true...

That sounds a lot more plausible than the Cell Phones themselves putting out that much energy... Especially when they are only ringing -- I don't think Cell Phones transmit very much until you actually start to talk.
I wonder how hard it would be to make a MASER (Microwave Laser / highly focused Microwave beam) out of a Magnetotron (that is the part inside of a Microwave Oven that actually generates the Microwaves). Because if it was a Magnetotron under the table, and that sucker wasn't tightly focused... I wouldn't want to be anywhere in that room when they turned it on!!!
Unless it was a very weak Magnetotron, or one running at very low power. Then it might be a little safer. I wonder how weak it could be and still be able to pop a popcorn kernal?

Actually, I would think that a cell phone would produce the most power either just before the ring, or just as it's ringing. Sortof a beacon "I am here" to enable the tower to lock onto it and establish a communications link.
I have no real proof, other than my own opinion and the Mythbusters episode where they revisited the 'cell phones exploding gas stations' episode.

There is a burst of energy just before the phone starts ringing. At least - when you put cell phone on a wire going to the amplifier - you first get a sound in your speakers, and only then you get ring from the phone.

Even focusing the beam won't help. As far as I know, microwaves behave allmost like light - they will bounce of walls, partially, but enough to be dangerous.
