I had some labwork done, and it turns out there is a problem. My TSH is high, which means that my thyroid is underactive. According to the doctor, a thyroid issue could explain the low libido and ability, as well as the low energy, and a few other issues I am having.
No one knows what the cause of this problem is. It could be the medication I am taking (Seroquel). According to what I've read, it rarely causes elevated TSH, and in a handful of those cases thyroid replacement has been required. But those numbers were so small that we can't say for certain it is that. Plus I am on a fairly low dose (100 mg). If it isn't that, neither I nor the doctor has any other idea as to what it could be.
I was started on a thyroid med. Supposedly the latest treatment for thyroid conditions is a T4/T3 combo (both types of thyroid hormone) or in a few cases T3 only (the stronger of the two). The traditional treatment has been T4 only (the weaker of the two). As my doctor is of an older generation as does not know much about hormone issues, I was understandably prescribed T4 only. For some people that is apparently enough, so we will see what happens. I was also started on a very low dosage (25 mcg), but I guess starting out low and working up is the way you do it.
Once we get things straightened out, I may see some improvement in these issues. There still may be hope for me
