Hi,
this is my first time here.
I made the first serious try with a Burdizzio last weekend, unfortunatly without success.
What must I do to ensure that it destroys the cords.
Regards
Linda
p.s. how do I deposit a pic here. I could put one of the closed burdizzio

To attach a picture when posting a message, use the "Attach file" box (it's a bit below the place where you type your message). Just click the button next to the text field on that line and it will let you select to attach a file (picture) from your computer.

Just make sure that the pic isn't too large. If the file is too large, the Board will reject it. I believe that 200K is the limit, and a res below 640x480 would be good, as most screens are running 800x600 to begin with.
Keep in mind, the larger the file, the longer it's going to take to download.

Hi Linda
My experience with the Burdizzo was unsuccessful, even though I was clamped twice both sides. We tried again using an EZE castrator imported from the US. The manufacturers website is at
www.castrator.com and clearly describes the procedure. It worked! If you would like some pics please email me at
tom_rubbersub@hotmail.com.
Good luck
Tom

I visited the web site, and noted that they suggested that all animals receive a tetnus antitoxoid shot before the operation. Whilst I do not approve of do-it-yourself-castration when we have Dr. Spector/Kimmel available, I do hope that if you are contemplating this [procedure, you will indeed get a tetnus shot beforehand, good for 10 years.

Does anyone know WHY cattle are being castrated?
they say bulls meat is more cutable and a bull grows bigger
and faster so WHY castrate?
there was some hint on castrator.com
"We received the new castrator today. My, your service is prompt! My husband is already rubbing his hands gleefully, wanting to use it tonight. But, since it is 9:30 at night and -10° F, I think he'll wait until morning. Thanks Again."
but is really EVERY red-neck into the scene so to speak?

spdd,
Surely you cannot be serious. Have you never seen the trouble which a single bull can cause? Even though beef is taken from younger animals than previously they are still at an age when they would be sexually mature. If they were left un-castrated they would become agressive and fight amongst themselves, not to say how dangerous they could be to the farm hands.

The reason for the tetanus shot is that Clostridium tetani lives in animal waste. It is less likely that a human will ever get such waste closer to his crotch than an animal. If one has had 3 or more tetanus shots in ones lifetime that is enough protection.
