Persistence of Homosexuality

Paul Vasey, an anthropologist at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada has been conducting outstanding research on homosexual behavior in Samoa. His work speaks, not only to the hereditary component to homosexuality (which is well accepted by most researchers), but also to the selective advantage that has kept it a part of the human genome. Even though gay men tend to have far fewer children than straight men, the genetic component for homosexuality has persisted for thousands of years.
Paul was interviewed recently by CBC Radio about his research on the
fa'afafine of Samoa. Some of the Archive members might be interested in listening to
the interview at:
http://www.cbc.ca/wildrosecountry/research.html
The interview is near the bottom of the page with the title: Same-sex sexuality in Samoa. I expect it to be available on the website for only another couple of weeks.
The original study that Paul discusses was published in Evolution and Human Behavior in 2007. The replication and extension study that he mentions has been accepted for publication in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, and should be out by the end of the year.
Pauls research interests focus on two subjects: the social behavior of Japanese monkeys (overlapping with some of my own fieldwork) and homosexual behavior in Samoa (which I have discussed with him at conferences on human sexuality). I have discussed with Paul the enhanced nurturing behavior that I have observed in the voluntary eunuch community (among those not on HRT).

I am able to listen to it with RealPlayer which has a free download (
www.real.com) if you don't already have it. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to listen to the audio now but it sounds like a fascinating study.

That does interest me. Thanks. My gay nephew wants someday to have children.

This download is about 2 megabytes in size. Should be playable by almost any media player.

Actually, I'd recommend Real Alternative Player (
http://www.codecguide.com/download_real.htm) instead of RealPlayer. RealPlayer is some nasty software. D:
Update:
Oh.. MP3. cool.

nvm.

I've never used "brunch" as a verb, and I prefer pubs to clubs. "Vogon" has meaning to me, whereas "Vogue" is alien. That said, I'm homosexual. (Dick = yumm!) The amazing irony of this thread addresses the persistence of a biological anomaly that nevertheless nurtures and cultivates an area of persona that transcends natural reproduction. We are more than cells and self-replicating DNA. A mind-fuck can be just as progenitive as a flesh-fuck -- and can disseminate on a level that is more spiritual than physical. (Beyond that, when two dudes dis-SEMAN-ate in gloriously non-Darwinian frottage, what could be more poetic?
Keep it up ....
(Heheheh ... I said "keep it up" on a Eunuch message board ....
Godiloveirony ...)
