A Warning of Change.

This may perhaps be somewhat premature, but I fell I should hand a public warning out for any among us who may be metathesiophobic. (Look it up yourself if you want to find out what it means.)

The current plan, or at least my current plan, is to be deleting at least two pages from the EA by the end of August. Specifically, I am aiming to delete this page (http://www.eunuch.org/story_index_picker.php), and this page (http://www.eunuch.org/new_story_index.php). Ideally, I would also like to delete approximately 72 other 'pages', namely the title and author pages that go along with the two pages listed above.

Never fear though, no pages will be deleted until there are replacements available, and there is even a chance (no holding of breath, please) of a somewhat rudimentary search being installed, at least provided things go well.

I fully admit that August may be somewhat optimistic, as our team of monkeys is not quite infinite, and so it may take them somewhat longer to produce the necessary code. I do have every confidence that at some point though, they shall come up with something we can use.

Thanks for the heads up but..am I missing something? Why are the pages to be deleted in the first place?

No problems from me so long as functionality is maintained. The part I use most often is the new story index. So long as that is maintained as part of the hinted at search feature, I think things will be fine.

Well, some problems have arisen.

First of all, search will likely continue to remain off the maps for now, due to unforseen complications. I may try to kludge a work-around though.

Second, and I cannot stress this enough, I HATE Internet Explorer. The new pilot pages are mostly complete, and are 100%, W3C Standard, 'XHTML 1.0 Strict' compliant. Naturally, this means that for some reason it's not rendering properly in IE, although everything else has no problems with it.

Aside from that, it's going swimmingly. :P

I couldn't agree more, you'd be amazed at how many commercial sites I have to use firefox for just to get the site to return a page or search request.

I figure that you folks know what you need to do. I would post more in other sections if I had more to say.

I use Firefox with the IE Tab add-on. The add-on let's you load a page with the IE engine instead of the Mozilla one for sites that require it. I've even used it for Windows Updates (but I still do them with the real IE generally). It's nice never having to switch browsers for normal browsing use.
