Today I saw my doctor and was prescribed female hormones. So the journey to my gender reassignment is under way. I'm feeling very excited. I've decided to keep a journal to collect my thoughts and concerns as they come.
I plan to keep adding to this thread to let you all know how I'm doing and whats happening.

Doing a diary is a good tool when you start HRT. Use it as a tool when you talk to the doctor so she/he can adjust the dose if needed. Lab numbers are good but symptoms are JUST as important.
Congrats!

Thanks mrt
I'm feeling really euphoric at the moment. I've missed this feeling - it's been a while.

Yes! I understand. On about the 3rd day of HRT I was so happy from the effects I was acting like a total doofis...
Anyway congrats I know what an important step this is and what a relief it is to feel right.

I'm really glad for you, Joanne. I'll be an avid reader of your diary as I hope to be on HRT before much longer. I wish you much happiness!

Day 3 - I think hormones take a while to start to take effect, so nothing much to report except my breasts seem to be coming a bit more rounded, but that just may be my imagination.

Sorry I should note that I was a guy with low hormones. Thus I was kind of that dried out guy in the desert who got a drink of water effect.
Plus I want to add that on day 3 the main change was I work up for the first time in years with energy. I felt "positive" about things and this after the first couple of days of thinking "Is this going to kick in or not?" So day 3 for me was a surprise.
It took months for the hormone treatment to help me regain my ability to think clearly and to get a good sex drive back. I had been low for??? Many manyyears we think. Anyway it takes time and some of the changes come on so subtle that you don't notice unless you look at the changes over the long term. DO keep a Diary and share it with your Doctor. She/he can use that information to adjust dose and this can be very important to getting everything right.

Thanks for that. I do seem to be a bit more together than I have been for a long time. This could be the hormones or the fact that I'm finally doing something.

Are you currently living as a woman or man? Will you change your dress to female , if you have not already done so?

Hi Joanne,
Are you also on a testosterone blocker? From the research I did, blocking the testosterone in your system is essential for the female hormones to have the desired effects.
What type of hormone are you doing and what is your dosage?
The first effects that I experienced from the female hormones were mental. A drop in aggression and just an overall calming effect on my thinking and actions. These were very noticeable by the people around me and who knew the best and occurred within a few days of starting.
The next effect was a growing tenderness of my breasts, especially around my nipple area, which occurred at about 4 weeks.
The grown of my breasts also started at about the same time and began below my nipples with a steady rising of my breast off of my chest.
Next was a softening of my my skin from the subdurmial development of the thin fat layer under your skin which all females have. That's why women have softer skin than men.
The next effect I noticed was the facial features. It begins by just an overall effect of looking more rested and younger.
My butt, thigh and hip development were next and occurred about 3-4 months into the process. You will loss the male "flat butt" characteristic and develop the typical female rounded butt. Your thighs will also grow, which is also a very female trait.
Don't be surprised if you also develop a little bit of a tummy bump below your naval. In a women this is known as a "mother's pouch" and is also a female trait.
Good luck and I wish you the best. Enjoy and marvel at the changes that will be occurring!
