Last week I was at a seminar. The instructor told everyone to write down three questions that we would like to ask of other people in the seminar. Then we were told to find three people in the group that we didn't know and ask them the three questions. After everyone finished asking and answering the questions we were told to return to our seats. The instructor then began calling people's names and asking what the other people in the group had learned about each person.

When my name was called a short woman raised her hand so that she could tell what she had learned about me. One of the questions she had asked me was "Do you have any pets?". My answer was "no". But she didn't say what her question was when she spoke to the group about me, she just said "He doesn't have any pets." A tall woman in the group shouted in a shocked and terrified voice "HE DOESN'T HAVE ANY WHAT?!!!". The short woman then said "pets". The reason the tall woman freaked out was because she thought the short woman had said "He doesn't have any nuts."

Before that happened I had often wondered how other people might react if they found out that I'm a eunuch. I knew that some people would react negatively, but I was really surprised at how that woman reacted. She seemed as if she was going to run out of the room in terror.

If there are any "out of the closet" eunuchs who have had bad experiences when coming out to some one, I would like to hear about what happened.

I am out of the closet, but not so much as an elective eunuch. I have more or less hinted that my castration was to control prostate cancer. I needed to say something, as my use of fans to control obvious hot flushes raised questions. Also to explain sick time used. After 15 minutes of fame, life goes on and people do not bring up the topic.

Reactions to failing or missing manhood vary a lot. When I finally came out about my hormonal problems, which were getting a LOT of attention, I got a mixed bag of reactions. When I explained what was wrong and what might happen to me, I was surprised at how understanding everyone was. I was never met with any kind of digust or fear, but then again, this only from people who knew me. It's not like I announced it to total strangers on the street!

I think the most shocking reaction was that of one my ... how shall I describe him? The ultimate redneck truck drivin', beer drinkin', woman chasin' country boy? Yea, and we were best friends ... go figure! He actually burst into tears and hugged me when I told him what was going on. But then again I'd just had a serious pain attack while helping him pick up a 383 Magnum Dodge engine block too. Big mistake. Of course I had to explain it to HIM. His solution was to head to the bar and get lit and see if beer could cure hypogonadism ... God, I miss him!

My experience as a eunuch, as far as others are concerned, has been almost a non-issue. Most of my friends, relatives, co-workers, after a few moments of initial shock, took the attitude "Ok, thanks for sharing, now let's get on with our lives."

I had one experience similar to yours, Paolo. I have a neighbor, a man in his late 50's, whose wife left him 2 years ago, and good riddance! Bill was born and bred on a farm in Johnston County, NC, the rednick capitol of the world! He and I have been very unlikely friends ever since I moved into this neighborhood in 1991, in spite of the fact we are so different (or perhaps because of it???)

He now sports around in a Corvette, and when he gets tired of that he takes his Porshce out instead. He has had more sex in the past 2 years than the previous 15! But one day he and I had both had too much to drink and he began expressing remorse for all the women he was bedding, but that's all it was... no emotion, no love, just pure animal lust. As I said, I'd had a little too much to drink, so I said "I have a cure for you, Bill." His look was priceless. "Charlie, you're my best friend in the world," he said. "I'm absolutely thrilled that you're a happy eunuch, but there's no fucking way I'm gonna get castrated!"

We're still good friends, but poor Bill still has his nuts.
