GRS Surgery

I have some very exciting news. In the process of my gender therapy from male to female, I have realized that I want to go all of the way and get GRS (Genital Reassignment Surgery) rather than just the orchiectomy. I even have decided on the surgeon who will perform my GRS - Dr. Toby Meltzer in Arizona. I have heard a lot of good stuff about him and his vaginoplasty and labiaplasty procedures. I have my in-person consultation with him scheduled for this June.

Congratulations,
Most consider Toby one of the two or three best SRS surgeons in the world.
Just be sure that the decision is yours alone, not the encouragement of friends or even of your therapist. If that's what you want - Go for it.

Hi Tracy1980,
Congratulations on your decision to go for the GRS. I know that it was one of the biggest decisions one can make for a transsexual women. I don't know if Toby follows the Standards of Care outline, which most surgeons in the U.S. adhere to due to legal ramifications. If he does, you will need to complete three requirements prior to the surgery.
Two letters from either a clinical psychologists or therapist diagnosing you or certifying your GID condition.
Being on female hormone therapy for at least 6 months prior to surgery.
And by far and away the hardest of all. The requirement of one year of RLE or RLT, which is living your life, full time 24/7 as a female.
I did consider Toby when researching surgeons. The main reason I did not go with him is that Toby uses a two step procedure, which requires two surgeries instead of one. I did not want to go through the expense and the recovery time needed from two procedures 6 months apart. As you know the recovery time from each one of these procedures is 4-8 weeks and a lot of extra pain.:-\

Thanks Danya.
EricaAnn, may I ask who you decided to go instead of Dr. Meltzer?
