Recommendation : For Your Own Good

Post by JesusA (imported) »

I’m surprised that no one has yet taken up Paolo’s suggestion for posting of information here about favorite stories. I don’t read very many of them, but I have certainly found a few stories that I consider to be outstanding works of fiction – some clearly publishable.

The first really great story that I read here was Paolo’s own For Your Own Good, which was posted in twelve sections. I’ve printed it out, and it sits on my bookshelf. It’s 173 pages, single-spaced, in 12 point type. It was a very early Paolo work and he used the name ^Paolox3_ for it. Only later did he shorten his Archive name to a simple Paolo.

It was this story that induced me to first contact Paolo directly and then eventually to meet him in person. I have since met his extended family (including the HERD of boys who dominate his life) and have come to think of him as the closest friend I have had since I was a little boy. Because of my comfort with Paolo, I went on to meet many other members of the Archive community and look forward to meeting many more.

For Your Own Good is an extended nightmare set in a universe that is almost, but not quite, identical to our own. There is almost nothing in the story that couldn’t actually take place sometime in the near future – if it isn’t happening someplace right NOW! It’s powerfully written and frightening.

I hope you enjoy it. Please post any comments about it back on this thread. I know that I’m anxious to hear what others think of this story. I suspect that Paolo is too….

I seldom read the stories now (although I have enjoyed some of Paolo's other works), but I know I want to read this series after seeing the introductory remarks:

"Picture it - you're a boy. You're a criminal. Everyone is DONE

with you. The IO Rehab Facility owns you now. Your cell mates are

various types of eunuchs. You're not. Yet. The guards are former

inmates. There's no way out, you're lost inside the complex. All

you have to do is be a good boy ... until you turn 18 and they

MIGHT let you out."

BTW, I have previously posted my comments on another excellent story by Paolo, "Santa's New Elf". I highly recommend it, even if we are months away from Christmas.

I have read many of Paulo's, Pueros', Slammr's, Callum's, Nathan's and Zipper's (just to scratch the surface) stories and have many very touching and are well written. With the exception of Puers, I have contacted the authors to thank them for their effort. which I will be correcting shortly. I hope to have one of my own posted soon. I do this though for my own enjoyment. If others thank me for my efforts, so much the better. I do believe te best authors here do it mostly for the pleasure they get from it. Some of the best seem to write in "waves" because sometimes they have more time to commit to writing, at other times, less.

A couple of typo's in my previous post:
