Personals Messages

Curious.
I've gotten a two messages from guys on the Personals that do not seem to be members.
One had a picture posted, appeared to be a member, so I responded (it IS a cute picture), [and he requested communication privileges].
The system doesn't recognize the member (Member not found).
Odd. I thought only members could send messages. Did I miss something again?
Figured if a picture was posted in a EA Personals, system-generated message, there would be a membership and / or / maybe a profile to review. Don't understand how a picture got sent without an established profile. I have responded to a non-pictured person and got that same error message, so,...maybe the profile is still under review or something?
Can someone "Wink", and post a note, without being a member or having a profile (AKA, Lurker)?
Personally, I think that's rather rude,...but if someone does not want to become a member, they should at least provide a communication preference (just don't hope for a lot of results). :-\
I still have much to learn about this type of communication! (Can't we just fast-forward to the sex?)
