this post would be for those who have gone to Dr. murray kimmel to have their orchiectomy done.
what position are you in while the surgery is being performed? are you just lying down or is it one of those gyno tables with the legs spreaders
he said to shave before but i didnt think of asking to what extent. i asked one member on here and he said from the naval to the knees. is that right ?
should i get there early ?
and if theres anything else you would like warn me about that i might find unexpected about the surgery/trip in general please go right ahead.
thanks <3

Hi Randy,
I will be at Kimmels soon so I don't have direct answers for you, actually more things to consider.
As far as shaving is concerned, I would expect a smooth sac and a trim of any hair that might get in the way. Certainly no more that a genital shave.
I have a bunch of my own questions:
Now that I am on Dr. K's schedule for this spring, I have a number of questions on how to handle the before and after process. I am trying to prepare a brief guide on the process of visiting Dr. K in Philly. I will base it on anecdotes of former patients and of my own future visit. Some parts will stress the mechanics of travel and hotel, and some on the actual procedure and the recovery process.
For example:
1. How do you make a reservation at the Best Western? How do you get the Dr. K discount? (call motel direct and ask reservations for Dr. Kimmel discount rate. It drops rate about $40 to about $106 per night)
2. Can you walk to and from the motel to get the procedure done? (yes)
3. Can you get up to eat nearby? The doctors assistant has told me that I must lay in bed for at least two days, and have meals brought in. Are the hotel restaurant or others very close of reasonable quality? (so I have heard, or use room service)
4. Do you have to ice the incision continuously? The assistant said I must put ice on the empty sac for two days also.
5. How long before you can move around locally and then travel home?
6. Are the stitches dissolvable or must be removed. (disolvable for castration only, not if sac is also removed)
7. Is there a drain? (no)
8. Are 6 and 7 different with two procedures at the same time?
9. Is the office sterile and professional?
I will refine these questions and incorporate all the information I have before re-posting in this thread.
Any further input you have will be appreciated.
Thanks,

He told YOU to shave? Thats odd. The Nurse at my Non Dr Kimmel surgery said that if a patient showed up who had shaved himself they would have sent him home. They use a clippers as shaving tends to nick things and the don't want infections. Re-Ask this. And no, they don't need you to shave anything but the area where they do the incisions. If you want some free advise ask him to numb the cords with cord blocks before he cuts and ask him to cut high.

I have no clue what a "gyno table" is (though my guess would be something to do with gynecology), and if I had been on one when I saw Kimmel, I would have no way of knowing. I remember just lying down and Kimmel being able to remove the balls just fine.
If Kimmel is requiring from navel to knees now, that is certainly something new. When I went he told me only the genital area. In fact, Kimmel commented that I had a lot of hair on my legs.
There is no need to get there any earlier than what he told you. The time he gave you will include about an hour pre-surgery consult. He goes over the surgery with you, makes sure you understand the effects, and has you sign the consent form.
I should warn you that even with the local anaesthetic Kimmel will give you, everyone I know of who has seen Kimmel feels pain at some point during the surgery in the exact same area on the right side. I don't know why this happens, but I am still waiting to hear from the first person who has not felt it. Let me know how it goes with you.
When I felt my pain there, I instinctively reached my hand toward his. He yelled at me. Don't do that.
Also, even though I took the antibiotics as instructed, I developed a local infection. I think his sanitary procedures at least deserve to be called into question.

I'm sorry but this sounds really crude and not what I would expect. Pain and infections are a loud signal that your not at a good place. Plix did this guy have you wash before the surgery several times with that pre surgery soap stuff? Did he REALLY have you shave yourself? If so, according to the Nurse I had for my Orchiectomy your screaming for an infection. The surgical clippers they used on me have no way of nicking the skin.
Have you tried Chemical Castration for a while first? Unless you know what your getting into I would strongly suggest you rethink this for more then one reason.

P.S. having a local seems also odd. Everything I've read about Orchiectomy surgery says a general or a spinal so you feel nothing. Locals are "ok" for Vasectomy maybe...
Is he doing Locals so you can watch? He doesn't have guests in to watch and cheer etc??? I mean is it a fetish thing or ????

Locals work fine when going thru the front of the scrotum
Cant use a local taking them out iguanally.
Infections after surgery are best controlled with lots of neosporin if oral antibiotics are not given.
