It means some one approves of something you posted :)

I'm only posting this message to take a look at my own current 'approval' status!

Didn't do me any good though!

41 postings to date, and I've got none of the eight-pointy yellow sun/star thingies yet. But I suppose they won't come till I've posted my thousandth message.

24 green/yellow rectangles. 10 dark green, 10 light green, and 4 yellow. Does that mean I'm pleasing somebody?

It would be nice to know just what these 'status symbols' actually mean!

It takes a while. Also if some one with a high reputation approves of your post you points will increase slightly faster. On the other hand the stars are more of a novelty than anything else, because they only indicate that some one approved of something you said, and some times the most important thing you can say is not what people want to hear. ;)

I think the better thing is the comments people leave when they give you points.

Ah, right! Thank you Jemagirl. I think I've got it now! I've been coming here for ages, but had never paid attention to those green-disc, screwed-up-paper and danger signs under everyone's avatars!

So OK, from now on, every time I read a posting that appeals to me, or turns me on, I'll be giving feedback!

How do we read the comments people leave for us? No, on second thoughts, don't tell me yet. I'll try to find out for myself!

Like many other things recently the approvals were down rated and I went from three rows of gold medals to one & 1/2 or so, but slowly they come back to me, as I continue to "endear" myself to the other members...

NOT!...

If they don't put their name in the comment box, you don't get to know. Only administrators can look that up, and we generally won't. Anonymity is part of the notion of the karma points - we just ask that folks not hide behind it to sling mud.

So please, sign your karma/reputation comments - it is the right and nice thing to do.
