a fwiw, on the latest turbotax program

Post by crankshaft (imported) »

you might keep an eye on things if your running turbotax this yr, first time ever I had a problem, but,

had it get funky on going from fed to state, it would dump your w2 income data, had it happen twice, got things to work on the third try:-\

As a tax preparer, I dropped Intuit 6 years ago. They may be the biggest tax software around (Professional and amateur), but they SUCK. SO does HRBlock. For EZ returns, use the free system at IRS.gov

Now that I own two properties and one is for income (thus neccesitating concern re. capital gains etc etc), I decided, for the first time, to compare the nice friendly lady at the mall office (who I have used for years, but uses some kinda store-bought software), and who charges a measly 50 bucks, against an actual accountant office.

Lady at mall: $49.99. Knows everybody. Asked me same ol' questions, listened to my concerns re. new property. Results in 15 minutes. $400 dollar return.

Accountant: $129.00. Strangers to me. Asked me a ton of questions Lady at Mall never has. Two days for results. $1,849.35 return.

0-o

I think I've outgrown the mall-lady... odd, 'cuz I only have the property and a few shares from work; other than that, I have nothing 'wierd'.

Way tooooo much. Mall lady is a fraud, accountants are getting rich off of folks like you. Only thing added to your return is a Schedule E, nothing else.

Easy.... Find an independent preparer with experience, and no fancy offices. You'll be far better off at half the price

Yow... point taken, and proven; I DID get rooked at the accountants'... could have had similar results in the city for 40 bucks less. I'm in Canada so not a schedule E but it's obvious our mall lady hasn't a clue.

Shopping for a tax guy... again... (thankfully, have almost a year before its an issue:))
