No alcohol for nearly a week...BORRRRIIIINNNNGGGGG!

Yoli here, give (me) a (beer) cheer.
I've gone about a week (six full days and nights) w/o a drop of alcohol.
How do I feel?...THIRSTY!:(
Since I've always evidenced a high tolerance I can't say I feel much, if any, difference. I will say that a couple of clubs here have filed for bankruptcy, however.
Did I miss it terribly for the past six days? Well, yes, but I missed the ritual aspect of the before-dinner cocktails and the enhancement of the meals themselves as afforded by wines or import beers, rather than any "buzz" that may have resulted from imbibing.
I went fishing today. Not in a boat but in waders, flyrod in hand, in a stretch of river that runs through some private lands. Usually, when we have our little lunch on the riverbank, we share ONE glass of wine or a nice beer with our food. We never have more than one simply for safety's sake since wading can be tricky at times. Note, please, that I NEVER consume alcohol when fishing from a bassboat or a flats boat at the coast. I DO have cocktails when on a large off-shore boat in search of bigger fish. Even those are limited so as to not tempt seasickness to attack me.
It has been an interesting period and proved to me that I can do it with no real difficulty. Still, I am not going to become a teetotaller, not by a long shot. Why? Well, I enjoy the taste of fine liquors, wine, and beer, so well as certain mixed drinks...Martinis, Margaritas, Manhattans...The Three M's...and am not going to give those up nor am I willing to diminish my enjoyment of good cuisine by forgoing the appropriate wine or beer with same.
What I have decided, however, is to cut back on quantity...NOT quality...in most social situations. I like the idea.
Wow! Now I am REALLY thirsty! However, I'm not going to raid the big house's well-stocked bar or wine cellar tonight. I will, for certain, resume consumption tomorrow but under the guidelines previously mentioned.
BTW, we catch rather few legal-size bass in the river and always return them unharmed even when we do, but we do catch some nice sunfish on small flies. A few of those, dipped in a beer/egg mix then shaken in a paper bag with some cornmeal, fry up soooooo nicely. Well, today we were very successful on the sunfish, keeping 18 really chunky ones.
That's what we had for din-din, along with a garden salad, some home-made fries, cole slaw (storebought), some iced tea, and cherry pie w/ice cream for 'zert. Even have some fish leftover for a midnight snack!
Luv to all,
Yoli
