US jurisdictions with laws prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity

Post by Danya (imported) »

I found this very interesting because I've been in the process, for some months, of coming out as transgendered in my workplace. I work for a very progressive company. Only about a quarter of the states, though, have TG non-discrimnation laws on the books.

Here’s a chart from the link http://www.transgenderlaw.org/ndlaws/in ... isdictions (Transgender Law and Policy Institute):

Missed one

The State of NH has had laws on this subject for ages and just approved civil unions for same sex couples we were also the first state to allow same sex adoptions . Albeit it is included in the wording of the statutes under discrimination over sexual identity and gender. The reason for wording it that way was to get it through at the time conservative majority in the State Senate. Also the drafters of the law felt that to spell out specifics left room for discriminatory acts against some as those that would challenge the law would site that under certain instances it was not discrimination as those parties were not mentioned with the others. In simpler terms a blanket law covered all and left no one out.
