I want to pose a question to all fully qualified members. Do any of you regret your castration? Have you become depressed or even suicidal since being cut? Do you know of anyone who has?
Thank you.

Mine was chronic pain like MrT. I do not regret having it done and don't miss my balls at all.

I have no regrets in being castrated. For me it was the right choice. It for the most part changed me both physically and mentally. I am very much a different person today. I am not happy with the osteoporosis but with medication I hope that is under control. The other side effects have not been unexpected and tolerated. Over the past 5+ years I have learned a great deal about my past life that I never knew about. I did things that I was unaware of doing. Testosterone does control far more of your life then you think. Anyone thinking about taking the trip should look long and hard at what others have found and see if it is a life that you want and can handle. You get the good and the bad from castration. There is no going back once castrated. HRT is not as good as the real thing.

I strongly agree with Bobbie on the first point.
On the second I'm puzzeled. I've had more then one person make the second statement that Bobbie did but... I've questioned doctors on why HRT is not as good as the "real thing" The two statements that came closest to an answer were this...
"Your testicles create more then Testosterone. There are other things we don't know anything about that may provide benifits we don't know understand."
When I was told this I'm sure I rolled my eyes and I think his reaction was pretty much to be uncomfortable. BTW I asked what these unknown things were and the expert / urologist (Who teaches btw) said he didn't know.
My GP said that HRT was not as good as the real thing because "if I got prostate cancer I would have to quit HRT. If I got "bored" with doing my treatment and just quit on my own I would have very little natural production."
I've been on HRT for a good chunk of years now, and based on how I felt with low hormone levels I'm more then pleased with the results. I've not seen them degrade with use but maybe that takes decades or?? I dunno.
I will say this. Getting you body on the right dose of hormones to make you feel male (or female) takes time and effort. Some doctors seem to think one dose fits all and this is NOT N O T correct! Also some men need more or less to get back a sex drive or mental focus etc. And it takes time for things that have been shut down to come back. *if at all. I think this depends on how long you have had low to no levels.

As in the case of a few others, it seems, I initially sought to be castrated as a part of addressing pain and discomfort with my testicles. I have absolutely no regrets.

mrt; My endocrinologist (university professor, head of department, member of National Endocrinology Review Board) also says that there are "a whole lot" of other substances produced by the testicles. When I wanted to know exactly what they were he told me that there is no existing research on the subject but there are enough reasons to suggest there are that most endocrinologists accept the probability until better information is available. --FLO--
