Helllllllllpppppppp! I can't get the Insert Index to work. I've a report to do for Thursday, got the text done, inserted a TOC which works fine, but though I've followed the instructions in MS Office 2007 for Dummies, index still does not show. Any ideas?

You should be using PageMaker.

I have been using Microsoft Word since the beginning and i can safely say that never have i done anything big enough to have to create an index.
Did a quick search on Google (took less then 2 mins) search terms Word 2007 create Index
Try this link on the Microsoft website
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/ ... 91033.aspx (
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/ ... 91033.aspx)
If that fails try doing a search on Google using the above terms and find something that can help. You can even tweak the search terms to try and decrease the number of results.

IbPervert: Done that already, I'm going to copy the file to another computer in case my installation is faulty. When I'm done at uni, I'm going to get a decent office suite instead. I used to use Lotus Smart Suite, preferred it, shame IBM got hold of it and hasn't done much with it.

Got the indexing working ok, once I'd puzzled out what was happening behind the scenes. The www footnotes look uneven, but I'll have to live with them.
