Can't images be allowed using BB code such as (img)(/img) (didn't use the brackets, otherwise no display) as long as the images are hosted on another site? They shouldn't put any load on this server, unless there's something I'm missing. Or is it just that it would be too much of a hassle to monitor them? Possibly, if rules for posting them were set first, it wouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Bandwidth was always a past issue. Monitoring is a bigger hassle, and quite frankly neither I nor Paolo have that much time to add more. The posted link has been working well so far, it seems - such as to flickr or photbucket, or others. At this point IMG code is "supposed" to be turned off, but I catch it on occasion and have been cutting it out.

There are 3 big issues with using the IMG code in VB:
1. Hotlinking - a lot of site admins have a cow when they discover it.
The complaints then come rolling in.
2. People abuse it. If we start allowing it, it WILL get abused, just like it did in the
past.
3. Bandwidth - not ours, but not everyone has high speed Internet. Then they have
to go into their control panels and turn IMG off on their end to get the Board to
load...
Overall, I wish it could be different, but it's just too much of a hassle.

Hey, new avatar? that's pretty kewl. sorry i havn't been around lately.
anyway, i think it would be a hassle having to sort through images on every post to see if they are offensive, or spam, etc...
I doubt it would be worth the bother of allowing images unless you had a few more mods.
