John doesn't use this number anymore
About 10 months ago I got a new phone, I like the number as its easy for me to remember. There is only one little problem, I keep getting calls for John, who had this number before me. I get 3 or 4 a week. They call and I tell them John doesn't have this number anymore and they ask me what his new number is. I am sure they can't name a country that starts with a 'U' either. I have decided that I am just about at the end of my rope with these calls, because John was a very popular person for me to get so many calls. Just yesterday a guy called "Is John there?" No I said, "do you have a new number for him," I said, John died, he did not leave a forwarding phone number so I am sure that fucker died either that or he is on the lamb because if I changed my phone number I would at least tell someone. Then this guy says, "you say he died? Oh my, he was so young". I said yes, he died but if he did not die and I find that SOB I am going to kill him for not telling everybody in the world he moved. "Oh so he did not die? and you say you don't have his new number?"
I hung up.

I hung up.

13 years later I am still getting calls for the company that once had my number. Of course, it was their fax line....beeep...beeep....beeep.

My wife and I get three or four calls a week for a restaurant whose number differs from ours by one digit. They even put OUR number in their newspaper ad at least once.
The restaurant was very nasty when we called about their placing OUR telephone number in THEIR newspaper ad.
My wife and I now take reservations for them, especially for large groups, and even offer customer specials on occasion....

Jesus, I never knew you could be so devious - lol
My number is one digit away from Crest Chevoret here in town. The calls used to be more frequent but now down to 1-2 a week. George has called only once this week to ask about the reapirs on his old Malibu. I hated to tel him but said, "the Malibu was in such gawd-aweful shape, all the mechanics agreed and had it crushed. On the plus side, it'll make a interesting lawn decoration." George apparently believed me and hung up after saying he's calling his lawyer.
I like Jesus's idea better. "yes, we can take 40 guests and at 40% off that night only."

Re: John doesn't use this number anymore
Shall we tell River we're recruiting someone to transfer the incoming calls of 28 guys named John to River's number?
Might be more fun if River's number was a digit away from St.Paul Republican Headquarters...especially if they were offering money.

River,
Give John my best.
hehe
I have called ID now. I love it.
If it's an unknown name, I used to like to answer the phone with lines such as "Thank you for calling the Chicken Ranch. All of our ladies are currently busy assisting other customers."
My boss used to answer the phone as Pizza Hut, then ask if they'd like to order since they already called anyway.
What the hell - have some fun with it!
Next time they ask for John, just go with it and see what they say!

Jesus. How nasty. People will rename you El Diablo. But we all get a laugh out of your offering discounts for a nasty restaurant.
I once worked with a guy that got a new phone number. It quickly became obvious that the previous owner had been a female who entertained calls from gentlemen after the bars closed. Perhaps he should have noted that she now has a Testicular Health Clinic . . . . .

Hell, make a list of phone numbers of every sumbitch in the area you don't like and just spread the joy around.
Reminds me of when I was 19. I kept getting calls for Sally one night, notably after bar close and I was dead asleep. On the third call within 10-15 minutes, I politely explained that she couldnt come to the phone since she was in bed getting banged by me. No more calls. Wonder what ever became of Sally?
