Re: There's Always The Weather
It is cold, cold, cold, 54F with snow in them thar hills and mountains beyond.
Rain, T
We have had some sod soakers over days not amounting to much more then half an inch in total,
but no gully washers.
It is looking dark and ominous to the north west.
Updates as they happen. Should something happen besides ominousity.

We Need More Honest Weather Forecasting.
If "they" promise rain. Why isn't there rain?
Rain, T
and their monopolistic, unconstitutional Weather Service promised was a "no show".

Re: There's Always The Weather
Yesterday, it was a sunny 52F here. Today, snow with wind and 30F for a high.
I think I am going to die.
75F. I could only get the interior of the truck up to 85F.
I think I am going to die.

Re: There's Always The Weather
When the storm had been and gone my rain gauge was trace, like wet with liquid of no measurable depth.
Then came the winds, the desiccating, heat sucking winds. Now gone and so is the moisture in my rain gauge.
So I ran the sprinklers.
There is snow dusted on Saddleback peak, relatively rare, and snow all along the ski resort peaks in the distance. There is a crisp clarity to the air while the sky is blue without a cloud and this evening is actually sort of cozy compared to the last few days. Although the temp remains the same.
My friend and I talked of the nature of the sod soaking rain of no great totals but spread out for maximum soil absorption. And we remembered the "March Miracle" A dry, parched time for ole California and although "they say" our rain season is sort of October to May, if it doesn't happen by early February, it ain't gonna happen.
Well the March Miracle of '91 was a happening. Tons of snow bringing the State's snow pack to over 100% when they predicted it would take years of bountiful rain to restore them. And the rest of us got the wet stuff in great amounts and well portioned over that famous March month. It ended a Seven Year Drought in one month, and I don't mean flood plain style.
One of those events like the Sea Gulls saving the Mormon crops from locust. Thank You
Lord
BTW you can Google or otherwise Search March Miracle and find it is remembered in current blogs
and articles from that time. Or not.

Re: There's Always The Weather
The Santa Ana winds are gone, leaving the environment dry and 10 degrees warmer.
By the weekend it is suppose to go up another 10 degrees and hit 80F on the coast! without future wind alerts.
I applied lots of imported water on my lawn, hillside and garden.
Y'see I figure the most "controlled growth" effort one can do is use as much infrastructure as you can afford.
Because "they" don't hold up their side of the bargain via, smart growth.

Stress the infrastructure for managed growth.
( )0( ) that's another thread.

Re: There's Always The Weather
The newly planted Babcock Peach, and the Royal Apricot are showing some budding. A few blossoms on the A'cot.
The Mission Fig is showing some sprouts too, while the cherry and citrus remain dormant.
Today was 70F and 80F is due in two day. The sky is clear and the atmosphere moderate.
I read and hear stories some Americans in the Continental 48 are experiencing continued snow.
Lots and lots of "snow". And then more snow. Is it The Day After Tomorrow,,,today?

Living the California Winter's Dream,
you have to be "south" to do that.

Re: There's Always The Weather
The "snow pack" report is: under 60%.
Record dry January. And February has not been that great.
C'mon March Miracle revival.
The smell of brush fire has been in the air. And the NBC Network News
was smoke screened out by continuous helicopter and on ground coverage
of the Jurupa Valley, California fire. Looks like some rich people community
near MacWolf. (report in MacWolf).
A sure sign of the Santa Ana winds effect is, when you pet the cat, there are sparks.
My wife took delight in having a cat sniff a pointed finger creating a spark and did not get why the cats became mine. Or me theirs. True story from Alcoholic, Schizophrenic Wife Tales.
Other Santa Ana wind effect is increased Essential Tremor and general hyperness.
So I also bought more Azul Silver Tequila 1.75 L X 6
AND
So I watered heavy. Real, Real Heavy. Gotta use all the imported water I can as grass roots growth control.
Amazingly. This weather requires less water to maintain my preferred dilute urine then cooler weather. Less loss of water via pulmonary air hydration. Not so for plants. No plants don't have pulmonary systems, they transpire water.
Moi
Looking At America's reserve water, You Know Where
Cliff Notes:
Warm but not a moderate atmosphere.

Near 15 F drop in temperature predicted between Saturday and Sunday into Monday.

Re: There's Always The Weather
The <doom> Federally <Darth Vadar breath sounds> promised rain never came.
Not within a hundred miles and 3 storms.
I wonder what the Euro model would have predicted and if our tax dollars might be better spent for forecast from the Euro Weather Service. They did a superior job predicting the non event in Washington, D.C. that shut down the airport per our weather service.
Gray clouds come and go. The Apricot tree has over ten flowers with lots more coming.
The sick lime tree is showing some growth and one of 3 lemon trees. The cats sleep inside.
