You did not say how you are doing or what the nurse said.

But at least you are eating baked goods now and not FRIED.

The nurses are here now mainly to teach me to control my Diabeties.

I went on chat tonight but didn't say much as my panic attack was ongoing. My fellow ops "warmly" greeted me like a long lost brother returning home. The love shown by IEunuch, Wetherman, Ken_SD, plix was unbelievable and felt good.

There were warm hugs from the lobby too :)

As the panic attack increased my breathing became a bit shallow so I left chat. I turned on the cooler, took one 10-325 mgs of hydrocodone-acetaminophen to relax me and ease my hand pain. I laid down and tried to sleep and actually got 90 minutes sleep. It's not for nerves but it's all I have.

A social worker came by to see me today and had these ideas:

(1) To call my main follow-up physician (Cortez) to ask if I can have a sooner appointment with her. The current appointment is on August 26th. The social worker said to try to get one within a few days telling them of the panic attacks and how they will prevent normal healing.

(2) To ask my primary care physician, Dr. Rosa Cortez, and ask her if I can qualify for Social Security Disability.

(3) Contact D.P.S.S. downtown and apply for General Relief. The social worker said it can be a monthly income.

I start some of the process tomorrow. Wish me luck.

P.S. The social worker reminded me to began filing for my basic Social Security which will give me about $500 a month.

Excellent advice. Good luck!

Small favors are better than nothing: I was panic free from about 10:00 pm to about 3:50 am. Then when I tried to go to sleep, it hit again. So here I am typing instead of sleeping. Alas

Bagoas (imported) wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2008 8:41 am I had been plagued by anxiety, about 24/7, since early childhood, and occasional panic attacks. About 10 years ago, my physician prescribed Prozac which gave me hot flashes and severe vertigo. He changed my prescription to Paxil and, for the first time since I entered elementary school, I found myself free of anxiety most of the time.

I am claustrophobic and confinement in a small space is the only thing which ever triggers panic attacks now. Otherwise, I am free of them. I am now taking Effexor only because Paxil tends to cause, or at least favor fluid retention and I was already bothered by that. Effexor does not have that side effect.

Paxil has been, if not a life-saver, at least a life-enhancer for me.

I will only use an OPEN MRI, that closed one, well I hit the panic button before they can leave the room

After being awake all night, I walked to the local hospital and pleaded with them to give me something. Their doctor said any strong medication would have to be given by a family doctor.

He did give me some Benadryl which he said would help along with restricting my caffeine intake. I took one tab at 11:30an and slept till 2:30 pm :)

Sounds about right. Benadryl seems to last about that long for me. It does help me sleep sometimes. Better then nothing.

Paxil might take a month or more to work, but keep taking it. Benadryl will not help much. I do sometimes use it to get to sleep, but it is only a short time fix.
