Indeed, sometimes you have to increase the brightness to see some shadow details on the screen.
In photography, this effect has been known for a long time, and in order to correct this deficiency in the correct transmission of the light range, they resort to the so-called gamma correction.
It appears that TVs provide similar correction.
True, for many years I have only been using computer monitors that I know for sure have gamma correction.
