You gotta remember that the Japanese, culturally have a very strong honor code they tend to live by. It wouldn't work in the US because the gangs just care about benefitting and profitting themselves. Theres a reason why some places are a certain way while others are another way.

You might say Japan is more open or ahead looking at what u've pointed and yet how open is their LGBT society? Truth be told, the LGBT society in Japan faces quite a bit of harressment from mainstream society, which is very strange because if we delve further back into traditional Japanese culture homosexuality was never a taboo and sometimes even encouraged. It's almost as if they regressed.

Although the sort of discrimination that exists within their society currently is generally not of the violent sort, nontheless, there is at best flimsy tolerance, although more often than not, Japan is currently still within the grasp of conservative societal beliefs which are widespread throughout Asia, that seems to have spread to them thru their exposure to western conservatism during the 19th century, as well as Christianity, on LGBT people and LGBT rights. That they are currently "open" with regards towards pervasions catering mostly for straight people, even if it is futa porn, is not reassuring me of their tolerance for gay people. If anything, I'd say their society is currently a lot more hetero-biased than many other western societies. Happy perverts? Sure, as long as they're more or less straight.

u have to remember Japan was very heavily influenced in the late 19th and early 20th century by Western Christian conservative values. Going back earlier it was not the case, homosexual relationships between young boys and samurais were encouraged, although im not sure what their take was on penectomy and castration was.
