That's what I remember the Passaic Swamplands were when I worked in Elizabeth a many years ago.
And in summer, there is no greater thrill for the sensitive of nose than to travel the Pulaski Skyway.

The Passaic Swamplands are a haven for wildlife. It's a calamity that they're located in the way of human highways, factories, etc. There are efforts, probably doomed, to save them. Even now, you can see snowy egrets if you drive or take the train through the swamps.
NJ also has the Great Swamp, which is a protected wildlife refuge. There are raised wooden walkways for people to observe the animals.
The Pulaski Skyway was once the world's longest elevated road. It was considered an engineering triumph. Now, it's just old.

FOR those who don't understand the comment about the Pulaski Skyway. It's a really tight and very long bridge. I swear to everything holy and on many bibles that each lane has 6 inches beyond the outer sides of a normal car and iron bars like a fence that stand four foot high. Well, at least they are narrow lanes. And New Jerseyites drive the damn thing at 50 MPH about 5 feet from your bumper. Don't even think about stopping or braking.
Really scary to drive on ... I once that summer saw a car turned sideways for having caught the iron bars on the side of the road and a long line ub bumper crunched cars behind it. I really hated that road.

Fortunately, I was able to get the interior of my truck up into the 90's last night on the way home. I do have a good heater. It was 57 in my office this morning. Needless to say, long underwear, jeans, fur lined boots, and lined hoodie were NOT enough.

My friend and I went out for our normal food run we do the first of the month, when I got home the house was its normal 70, I turned off the heater and opened a window, it was so hot as hell in house and I reset the temp to 65. Right now I am in shorts just like the last time you saw me, the house is a warm 65 and life is good.

Water falling from the sky last nite. On and off. About a third of an inch.
Today the air is fresh and crisp with every imaginable category of cloud in the sky.
Light sprinkles lasting a few moments travel through.
This is my desert by the sea.

It has been a pleasant Autumn and even the dry Santa Ana Winds feel good.
The tropically influenced humid Summer was really horrible. My skin is still recovering.
The Fuji apples get sweeter by the day. Loquat trees are starting to blossom too.
Cats are snoozy. Great napping weather.
I just love the feeling of Autumn. Fresh. Clean. Bluey light.
The news blathers about a FrankenStorm coming up at the East Coast.
Effected members, please share. I think it is destined for Southern N.J.

Today was a "tinsmith's day", (first snow, black ice and all other pleasantries of beginning of winter).
I also found out the hard and cold way, that my shoes have no traction on ice... This evening I haven't seen ice patch on the bus stop, while running to the bus until it was too late, slipped and fell on my butt. Ouch. Really ouch... To add insult to the injury, no, I haven't time enough to catch the bus.
