I noticed the same Jupiter-ish look to the clouds last night. It was quite pretty. Never seen it quite like that before.

We got about 5 gallons of rain in the barrel last night, which is collected off one side of the garage roof. Really just a sprinkle.

What type of onions were they? I don't know of any kitchen trick for making an onion less strong. But even one slice of onion with a meal is enough to make me miserable all night long! I love them, but they hate me.

Yes I understand, if you get your onion cold like in ice cold it is better, also its how you dice it up but raw onions which I love hate me I can handle cooked ones once in a while if there are not to many of them.

Aw curses (really foul and despicable ones.

A month ago, the cable company replaced my old, old, old cable with a brand new cable and my internet and TV stood up and did a military toe-tap with sparklers (a jig for those simpler folk) curse, curse, curse...

HOWEVER, they left the new line on the ground without burying it and my lawn is now a small field and forest because it hasn't been mowed.

So (more curses) they came at 9am and disturbed my beauty sleep to stick the cable underground

and I called my lawn guy and he said "I'll be there because it's been a month)

everything is still very green and growing yet and its best to be prepared

White Onions. But, they seem like common yellow/brown onions in flavor.

Home Depot.

Around December they have a display rack of four items in see thru bags.

Tiny 1) red onions, 2) white & 3) brown too. And what looks like 2 large pieced of 4) garlic.

Good stuff. Highly recommended. Esp. The Garlic

Next year I am going to plant them deeper I guess.

Any onion grower know better? Do they push themselves out of the ground?

Some are only sitting on the ground with penetrating roots.

Those I harvest but I try to let the greens die first.

If you planted them at the wrong time, they will do that. Much like a fencepost set in the wrong moon phase.

I would also guess that they were not deep enough to begin with.

Soil for onions should be loose as well, and not too moist, allowing to dry thoroughly between waterings.

It's time to triage here. Only the currently fruiting plants are going to get any more water.

The cucumbers have had it; they're far too bitter anyway, despite daily watering, which wasn't enough.

I did get my first tomato off one of the volunteer "foundling" plants. There were hundreds of them over the hill in the garbage dump. I saved about 36 of them. So far, it looks like a small round yellow one, and an heirloom Cherokee purple. One of them is a Roma. One has heart shaped fruits on it. I have one melon plant finally setting on two fruits. The rest are on their own.

They'll be dead in 2 days...it's going back to 100F + here with high humidity next week and no chance of rain.
