More seriously, those reservoirs up north are there as part of a flood control program. Having these reservoirs full before an anticipated rainy season may not be too bright.

Castaic Lake does not bear such flood control responsibility.

Perhaps not. Also, Having lived next to these reservoirs most of my life, I'm quite aware of the flood "control" aspects of the northern reservoirs, and probably know more about how to indicate they are suffering drought than a person living in Southern California. These reservoirs in good years are purposely kept a bit low this time of year in anticipation of the snow melt from the mountains in the spring. still, 50% (or less) in a 2 to 3 million acre foot reservoir is VERY low even for this time of year.

I live right next to a 2.5 million acre foot reservoir and the old highway bridges over the river it dams are starting to pop up out of the water. At full pool these bridges are 200-250 feet UNDER water.

Call me silly, but that's a drought scenario that even if all the snow melted and went into them today might bring those reservoirs up to 60-65% of capacity.

I think it was June 2006 the last time the reservoir I have in mind was close to full-pool.

I live next to Folsom lake and it is way down and I have seen one of those bridges on Mormon island out of the water. This winter is just getting started so we will pray that this isn't the last rain of the season but I have seen that rain stop way to soon. Most of the dams up north are only about one third full so we need all we can get this year.Sadly southern Cal dosent have much storage because I here they might get feet of rain not inches.

River

NO!

I like storms.

What was really nice is these were, day time storms. Late AM, early PM.

Got my drain fixed.

Thunderstorms are rare. But on Tornado day I counted less then 3 seconds from flash to clap.

Thursday's storm was not as big as promised considering there were two nearby tornado just 2 days ago.

I have had a good barometer these last several years. I have never seen the numbers as low as today. 990mm / 29.20 inches.

Down from pre-tornado day, of 1020mm / 30.10 inches.

Seems to have dropped almost a half inch a day for the two biggest storms.

It was fun to watch the needle move. Better then network TV.

Moi

PS Sorry about the water following Route 66. I did my best.

Yup, our very first tornado, though small by Tornado Alley standards. Only damage was one blown off roof and two overturned vehicles.

Three days of rain so far after a few years of drought. It hailed today but stopped after 2-3 minutes. I love rain.

There was one in Costa Mesa that did a number on a roof but, lots of roofs suffered from wind.

Then there was a water spout that made land fall and continued a way in Sunset Beach. Lifted docked boats. Both in the little County of Orange.

Did you have one out in San B county?

I never seen my barometer so low 990 mm / 29.20 inches

Thursday has not been as, advertised. Bigger then Tuesday.

In three of the last four storms I have had to use an electric bildge pump as my new 4" drain could not handle all the water.

Today in the between storm sun I had two extra drain pipes put in. Three paralel four inch drain lines. Am I ready or what? No more back up pump.

AND, the pomegranate trees that look like dead sticks are sprouting green and the buds of the cherry tree are showing life as well as one bud on the Fuji apple. The avocado with one large fruit is going to flower and the loquat has clusters of green fruit. Three lemon trees are loaded with near ripe lemons. The mission fig, apricot and leechee remain dormant.

A friend brought some lettuce plants to transplant and also planted seeds for sweet onion, sweet pepper, peas, corn - 2 kinds.

Early spring in California.
