Her Speech Pathologist said it was common for stroke victims to talk in "jargonese" now and then. The S.P. also advised against the tube for now as did the owner of the nursing home.

I watched as mom ate 40% of the food given her: a great improvement :). The S.P. said starting tonight mom will be on a regular diet. All the food was purried (sp) into a paste but it was real food.

Since her insurance runs out on November 1, I'm hoping she's well enough to come home by then or before.
This is good news. The notion of that tube really bothered me. Images of what could go wrong flooded my mind.

I talked to the business office at Legacy Nursing Home today and we decided mom will be coming home on or before November 9, 2007. That is the date that her medicare and Blue Shield stop paying 100% of her care. If she stayed there after the 9th I would have to come up with a co-pay.

Mom and I exist on $37 per day which, anyone of you know, isn't enough, The Nursing home co-pay would be $120 per day.

Hence, I get my mom back on November 9th or before :)

It's too damn quiet around here without her.

Isn't it funny how frustrating they can get, and yet we miss them when they're not around..? My biological maternal grandmother has dementia. It's insane. I know I couldn't do for her what you have done for your mother. You are truly amazing. I'm sorry you both have had to go through all this.. But on the up side, everything happens for a reason. Maybe this was nature's way of giving you some (much needed) time off? Either way, you seem to be happy that she's coming home. Thus I am just as happy for you. :)

No,

She can stay on MEDICADE, but then the house would be encumbered, unless it has been out of her name for TWO YEARS, I believe.

Law may be different in CALIFORNIA, though, you need legal advice.

It may be that even IF medicade gets the house that YOU can stay there the rest of YOUR life.

Mac, I think we all agree with that recommendation from A-1 and Kangan. Find a lawyer. Protect your rights.

Sounds all well and good, but has anyone checked lately on how much it costs to hire a lawyer? My niece's lawyer in her divorce has already cost her over $10,000, and the divorce isn't even final yet. When she told her lawyer she wanted to go for full custody of her kid, the lawyer said, "How? You don't have any money."

He has already milked her for all she had.

I don't think one is going to be too impressed with Wolfie's $37 a day, not when he charges $250 an hour or more.

You can find legal aid societies in most large cities and I am sure that Mackie has consulted such an organization in the past.

Mackie, get going... O.K.?

I suggest that your niece contact her local and/ or state bar association.

I know of a Lawyer who charged a man 21k to defend him in court for a drunk driving charge.

HE consulted bar association and they put him in touch with a local attorney who sued the lawyer that charged him 21k and won the case.

The lawyer who over-charged him ended up disbarred and now practices with his brother.

Lawyers are NOT above the law.

I've looked and haven't found any legal aid within 10 ten miles of me.

Bear in mind I'm hoofing it.
