Stanley Kubrick banned A Clockwork Orange in Britian due to violence. It seems to incite British gangs to fight each other needlessly. Whether this is because of the movie is up to question. go here:

Old Softee, William Wellman turned out so many top flight films. I think he's underappreciated because he wasn't associated with a signature, flashy, style. Remember Nothing Sacred, The Ox-Bow Incident, Public Enemy, A Star Is Born, Beau Geste, etc.
