Back in 70s when I lived in Knoxville, a guy's Ford Maverick was stollen. It was recovered a couple of days later in California. Consensus was to drop charges if they guy would share how he kept it running that long.

I liked my Ford Ranger, extended cab, 4WD, extra fuel tank,

and went on to a Ford Expedition, big 8, 4WD in the mid - late nineties.

Solid road feel, even when ABS brakes are invoked.

And Ford has such a "comfy" ride.

Since they don't make them like that no more,

nor so much control without a touch screen,

i started out my driving career with a 1986 oldsmobile cutless calais. it went from 0 to 60 in about 5 miles. maybe. it was a tank, but somehow it was destroyed in the high school parking lot by a neon driven by a 14 year old who was moving her boyfriend's brother's car as a prank. she ended up totaling 5 cars, including mine.

the next car was a hyundai elantra which i got with the insurance change from the olds. instead of an engine it had 2 squirrels and a rubber band. i hated that thing.

as soon as i could afford it i purchased a toyota camry. i ran it for years until it finally kicked the bucket.

then came a toyota rav4. i only just got rid of that after 10 years of cross country trips. well over 300k miles on it and very few repairs. got a couple grand on the trade in value for it too, even with the high mileage. i would have gotten another rav4 except they no longer make them with v6 engines.

my new car is a subaru outback 3.6r and i am head over heels in love with it.

For reliability it has to be my battered old Nissan Micra got 150000 miles on the clock and still starts on the button and doesn't burn any oil.

Back in the 1960's 1970s Triumph made a herald that had a fairly mediocre 1.3 litre engine in it.

They also made a Vitesse model with a 2 litre straight 6 in it same light body as Herald so great power to weight ratio.

I used to really love it when you got some boy racer pull up along side me at the lights in his hot hatchback expecting an easy win.

It was a fun.

For a bit back in the 60s I had a dirty red '50 Chev half ton pickup. I was stopped at a light and this 'vette pulled up next to me. I revved the mighty V-6 and asked if he wanted to drag. He politely declined. Given the power of Corvettes back then, I might have even taken him.

Not only that, but "traction".

Today they have this term "Road Resistance" - like less is better and you got less "traction".

BTW that uphill light is where 2 guys in sports cars did the same and the

famous guy creamed himself.

Of course the other guy "paid" via . . . The survivor was the villain although it took 2 to play.

I remember when the Jamboree Road bridge was 1.5 lanes and there were routine crashes from "chicken". One car was always a Mustang. My friends doubted until they noticed too.

I have this theory that Moi is a secret redneck and "SUV" is code for his real wheels (see about 0:40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUXxWlkom-g) plus he never shows jealousy of Dave's class entertainment because he stays fulfilled with his redneck philharmonic (about 1:45).

Dave's entertainment strikes Moi as PBS, BBC, urbane. Just can't find the entertainment.

My Ford Expedition 4WD is about "security" for when I would drive to the California

Redwood Rain Forests area. Fit for ranch roads. On the 101 I could feel that momentary slip and establishing traction over a wet glazed road via the 4WD.

When I'm going legal speed and some ( )o( ) changes lanes at 20 MPH below - those ABS breaks serve me well. I can feel a sense of <poof - poof> as the vehicle stops in a straight line.
