I happened to meet an archaeologist who was born in Yucatan and is probably as close to being a Mayan as one can be today. After a bit of conversation I asked, "I suppose you are tired of people asking this question, but what do you thing about the supposed Mayan Calendar end of the world prediction?"
His reply was, "I don't know where they came up with this Bullshit!"

If this is going to happen as scheduled, then it will have to be during the hour between 11AM and Noon in London and at about 6AM in New York. That's the only time of day that the entire world will be experiencing December 21st at the same time - during that particular 1-hour period. Any other time and the calendar will have two different dates on it at least in some portion of the world.
Frankly, I think the Mayans sacrificed their last stone carver/mason, and simply didn't have the labor on hand to create a calendar further into the future. That or the Europeans who invaded gave 'em all syphilis and they went crazy.
