Its a bit sad that the Thai government is cleaning up their act down there.
There were numerous SRS clinics down there that would have been willing to help out.

I'm yet to finalize anything, but I'm nearly certain that I'll be setting an appointment with Dr. A soon. I'm more fortunate than many on this forum in that I live only about a two hour drive from Detroit so can avoid a lot of the non-medical expenses. There will be no airfare or rental car to worry about, though based on what I've read of others' experiences I would likely get myself a hotel room for a night or two of recovery before braving Michigan and Indiana's often less than perfectly maintained highways. I looked up his office on Google Maps and there seem to be several decent quality and reasonably priced hotels nearby. Does anybody know how far out he typically schedules? Does he only do specific days/times? Most of the people who have shared their experiences here seem to have waited at least several weeks and had their appointments early in the morning and on the weekend. Is that his scheduling or just the way it worked out with the patients' travel arrangements?

He prefers to do the procedures starting at 7:00 AM on Saturday morning but was doing a few other times of the week but I don't think I've seen anyone say that he'll do them other days/times for some time now.
I don't know how far in advance he requires as I did mine quite aways out so I could get good discounts on the airline tickets and rental cars.
He usually requires that you be in town and contact him saying such, the day before the appointment and to stay at least one day after the procedure. Some guys seem to have an easier time than others with the pain/swelling but if it were me I'd plan on staying an extra day afterward. I flew home the next day and it was totally miserable not to mention having to change out the undergarments due to the drainage from the Penrose drains he put in place.
Hope that helps, good luck.

So i have made the decision after having a 3 appointments at my local gender centre that this is just not going to happen in Australia. I have even spoken too a couple of MTF transgender people locally and even they had to travel over seas for the surgery. I have made an appointment two weeks ago with Dr Arnkoff for March 11 for castration. This is going to be a difficult trip due to the 25-30 hours of travel but i really feel i have no other choice given i want this done as safe as possible.
I know that some other Aussie guys may be interested in making the same trip so i want to try and help others with working out travel expenses.
So far this is were I'm up too. All cost are AUD
Flights $2425
travel Insurance $175
Visa Waver $18.56
Car Hire $225
Accommodation $830
Orchiectomy $3975
Total so far $7647 AUD plus extras (food, fuel, meds, ect)
This is just for the minuim stay of be in detroit friday leave monday that Dr A recomoned.
On top of this i have decided to say an extra week before traveling home, and taking a small holiday to stop the questions as to why I'm making this trip. As long as all go's to plan and i don't have to change any of my travel arrangements.

Make sure tell dr Arnkoff that u travel from Australia, cause u can't get painkillers if u are a traveler, he will get it for u or have his assistant get it for u. When I had mine done last year(I live in Canada), none of the drug store will sell the painkiller, dr A's assistant got it for me. If u get a hotel near his office, there are some good restaurants within 2~3 mins walking distance in the neighbourhood.-- also get lots of adult pull-ups, u will drain quite a bit of blood in first day or two. Good luck.

Although you have purchased Travel Insurance have you informed the company providing cover that you are going to be castrated during your visit to the USA, if not you could find that should something go wrong post-op and you then make a claim that your insurance is not valid!

They do need to know your trip is for a Medical Procedure, but which one they do not need to know.

Considering you're traveling from Australia, that's really not a bad total price.

Hey LT, i totally agree, i was expecting 10-12000. I expect that it will be more as extras are not factored in and i will be have an extra week as well. But at the end of the day, what price do i put on being happy?? Im more worried about the trip back and possible complications than i am about the surgery, days following or cost. Hoping that staying the week will make for a safer flight home.
