Pretty evil indeed. However as a boy I'd have loved to have been enrolled in a nude swim club if such a thing was real. 😄

My dad would take me to nude beaches and I was fine with that. :D But the problem was the moment we arrived his expected me to strip naked immediately. I'd want to take my time about it then dad would make a big fuss. He was an idiot. :(

It's funny how times have changed. At my prep school, swimming trunks were pretty much optional when the outdoor pool was open. No one thought anything of it, even visiting families on a Sunday afternoon, although I do remember there was a rule that if family members, including siblings, visited, they should wear proper attire in the pool area.

Went swimming with some friends at the downtown YMCA in Fort Worth, Texas, when in high school, and we had to swim naked, and that was our reason for going swimming there.

I think boys had to swim naked in Chicago public school until 1978. Many had stopped in the early 70s, but the last one stopped in 1978, about the same time nude male swimming ended in Chicago YMCAs.

While swimming nude at the YMCA if you had noticed other boy with missing bits what would your reaction have been? 😲 I'd have been freaked out but I'd have tried to hide my surprise and act normal. 🤫

In my town (Northern California) nude boy swimming was still taking place as late as the mid 1980's. 👉

I never liked it when we had to swim nude. Did the girls have to do the same?

Gotta say, that new Theo was awesome. You are the current master of that sort of deep-dive-to-a-cliff-hanger chapter ending, and you make stars sparkle in my head each time you do it. This time more than most.

I just love your particular style where it comes to story escalation and the way you portray boy life. Your dialogue may be a little on the stilted/over-erudite side, but the actions and emotions are usually great fun to read because they read true. They feel right, they fit, and you don't exaggerate a physically perfect protagonist. You make things relatable.

(following is just me riffing on the story; don't take this as if I'm saying you should write this! I'm just playin';)

I have to hope for a solid attack on the next chapter. I know there is a temptation now to left-turn into a related B-story that only obliquely refers to what just happened; it's a good tactic. But here, I'd like to see something like a staccato-style, two-camera chapter. Like, for instance, show the car occupant's next hour step by step in one- or two-paragraph bits, interspersed with two-paragraph bits about the meeting the lady driver and Theo's mom probably had with the other team's coach. Some method that tells the story of the next little while in the boy's lives in a slowed down way... but gets us through it within a chapter or two.

Something that makes you fun to read is your metered escalation of story, how you bring in other characters to push the narrative forward, and the way you increase the number and range of 'victims' as chapters progress. I can see the start of that in Theo, and hope it continues :).

Thanks for a great chapter, man. My vote is for more of Theo!
