My rant:

What is up with doomsayers desiring for an end to come soon?

My mom is the same way she embraces death really really badly and hopes to never again regain conciousness and don't care if an afterlife exists or not. These are people that don't value life for what it is. A freak of nature.

I treasure life as the holy grail and will fight it in the attempt for an inmortality.

Our tech is getting better, even physcist Michio Kaku predicts that within 10 yrs we will have the technology for only $1000 bucks to keep a digital copy of our entire human DNA genome within our pockets. All you have to do is compare your older DNA with somebody elses Newer one and it'll be easy to eradicate disease, reverse engineer old age and expect cyborg implants.

The future is near River. Our generation will do away with this old age is natural.

Fact is it doesn't have to be. It's a disease. Plain and simple.

We have powerful minds, it is no doubt we we solve the mysteries about life

Science has come a long way and will provide the answers we seek.

I don't see religion offering the same. My opinion more of a placebo effect

Overpopulation!!!!..... bah.....Time to move out of Earth.

It is dying. There are countless of other planets reported by Nasa that can sustain life.

Gene therapy and techno-organic implants are on there way.

Technology is exponentially expanding at a rapid pace.

It's time to evolve to the next level.

I don't view inmortality as challenging a god.

I view it as the next step in human evolution.

If it led to incineration, I imagine so - for a moment.

If it let to starvation, longer moments.

All the possibilities.

My Eras of Life chart has the current era, Tertiary, about as big as the preceding ones that ended.

Seems time for a cosmic change, or at least Terran change.

You know the Era we currently live in is one of the most fundamentally important for our survival.

Things aren't looking good so far and worst comes to worse we need to prepare ourselves, lay the foundation for 101 interstellar travel.

In otherwords if we as a civilization can transition from Earth and live anywhere else across the galaxy then basically we have it made.

Michio Kaku calls this the transition from a type 1 to type 2 civilization.

Were not even a type 1 civilization. We still rely on fossil fuels. We can't even provide enough potable drinking water for everyone, let alone food, knowing full well we are surrounded by 75% water here on Earth.

Our interstellar travel is questionable at best. The right thing to do would be to open up more venues for private space programs.

The Vasimr rocket project for example(Texan funded and the vision of Dr. Frankling Chang who's of CostaRican origin, Yay my country ) is trying to create a plasma based rocket fueled by a uranium core to travel warp speeds. His technology though sounds dazzling will allow ridiculous speeds that would take us 26 months from here to Mars.

It sounds crazy but it has huge difficulties. The major one is overheating.

The rocket so far can only sustain 7 hrs worth of propulsion before succumbing to heat

I could go into the whole nitty gritty about this technology but in my honest opinion its a no go.

Alternatively a ionic powered rocket fueled by anti matter would offer a better solution .

The thing is Moi we really need to leave this planet to ensure our survival.

The rate we are expending this planet isn't going to offer much for coming generations and

people today aren't going to change their habits to make this dream a reality.

When the true dark nature of resource scarcity befalls humanity. Shit will hit the fan.

This isn't a prediction, this is coming from statistical facts.

I see this as a bigger reality than any of the so call Mythical proclamations made by quacks, or religion.

I could argue that it would take thousands of new intelligent species to rise up to the challenge of going from type 0 to type 1 civilization in case the human species doesn't make it due to our greed and stupidity.

And even with these newer species rising from the ashes of the fallen human species.

These newer lifeforms would probably repeat the same mistakes and die out before the higgs flaw destroys us.

The discovery of the higgs boson was a major stride in science. Somehow in the coming decades, if not sooner, it will become a valuable asset for us in technologically leaping our interstellar technologies

You are misinterpreting what the scientists are doing...

Theory says - the Higgs Boson should have this mass (We will call it AAA) and appear at this energy (we'll call it BBB) and these properties (call them CCC)

The CERN facility is checking to see if indeed the Higgs Boson (A particle) appears at that mass and that energy and has those properties.

If any one of those is wrong -- AAA, BBB or CCC, then the newly discovered particle is NOT the Higgs Boson. It is something else.

The theory is wrong. So the scientists will formulate another theory and begin the process all over again.

The purpose of the experiment is to prove existence of something, not to prove "non-existence" of anything.

That and good science must be proved through different independent sources and coming up with the same results.

Unfortunately, for the moment we're left with reviewing the results of collisions (experiments) which have been previously completed, but perhaps not reviewed. There will be no new atom smashing done at the LHC until sometime in 2015, as the collider has been shut down for some revamping and retooling to better enable it to answer some of these questions.

That doesn't mean we won't have new results, though. There is still a mountain of data to comb through over the next two years, which may indeed point with more certainty to their having discovered the Higgs boson. While I'd still be willing to bet that the mysterious 'Candidate X' is indeed the Higgs, I have to admit that physics would be a LOT more entertaining for awhile if that turned out to be something entirely new and unexpected. (That, and I admit to still being somewhat concerned about this whole 'false vacuum' thing which gets brought up if 'X' is indeed the Higgs.)

(PS: I wonder though.... if it is the Higgs, and this is a false vacuum, could there have been a higher-energy false vacuum at some point in the past, which collapsed to form our universe? Would that jibe with current big bang theories? If not, how would it contradict? How could we know/prove either way? Oh, to have contact with either of Drs Neil deGrasse Tyson or Michio Kaku)
