My local Denver TV station had a guy up there by evening news time Friday.

They are milking it for every drop of tear-jerk news they can find.

I'm not sure if the other 3 sent reporters on the same plane or not.

The NFL had guys that ran on the field naked the cameras followed them and they got there name in the paper along with their picture, today when that happens they say there is a disturbance on the field, yes its been taken care of and the game goes on. Their names and pictures are never shown, the problem has for the most part gone away.

Solution: report that its happened, but withhold the name of the person who did it, alive or not, never to be published. When executed, body's cremated and spread on the ocean, no grave to visit. Make them a non person forever.

I don't want to know this creeps name and I want his body burned and ashes spread, pull every record of this person and destroy it so there is no record that this person ever existed. That is all the notoriety that this person deserves, NONE.

River

River, I do respect you. We have talked together at the past two MoMs.

That said, I cannot yet imagine a better way of explaining what happened in Newtown, Connecticut than destroying the record of the person whose destroyed life destroyed the lives of others.

The victimization of children by parents who were victimized as children who had parents who were victimized as children, going back at least 4000 years in the human historical record informs me that the victimization has been so severe that truly good and decent people, for example, you, River, have been given such tragic insensitivity to the sort of abuse that breaks children into self-hatred that, projected onto other people, takes people into states of mind in which ordinary conscious awareness is overwhelmed by unconscious brain activity.

Show me that the work if Libet is wrong regarding how "normal" people make unconscious decisions which they pretend were conscious. Read that book I earlier mentioned by Libet, "Mind Time," and do a scientific experiment that can readily be replicated that demonstrates that the about 500 millisecond delay observed in Libet's published research is incorrect. No one has been able to do that yet. Of course, I allow that you are able to do it if Libet's work is actually wrong.

Saying something is so is the essence of child abuse, authoritarian coercion in which a parent demands compliance with the parent's belief regardless of the child's conscience.

As for me, I regard people who act out what they were forbidden to talk out to be socially precious, albeit stunningly tragic, martyrs. And I find it more terribly sad that humanity apparently needs martyrs because people, as children are taught that what matters to them does not matter to others. This depersonalization and/or deindividuation is the essence of what drives people to act out after words have absolutely and totally failed because of being forbidden.

Erasing the lives of people who have been driven to the realm of martyrs is what makes it impossible to stop making more martyrs; the children in Newtown who were killed being no more nor less martyrs to the nature of socialization-generated child abuse than the one whose gunshots killed them.

While ignoring many behaviors tends to extinguish behaviors, there also are behaviors that are reinforced by being ignored, child abuse being one of them.

Ignoring child abuse does not stop child abuse.

As best I can guess, the only thing that spared me from acting out in a massively destructive way in response to the abuse others sent my way because I was autistic and transgendered was my parents never teaching me that I had made a mistake that I could have avoided making.

I live my life in accord with the one philosophical principle that I have never been able to imagine any possible way to refute, which is:

Whatever happens, as it happens, is necessary and sufficient; such that, if it is right, it is helpful; if it is helpful, it is right, if it is hurtful, it is wrong, if it is wrong it is hurtful; and it is helpful to learn what is hurtful as no other way exists for learning what is hurtful and how to avoid it; therefore, everything that actually happens is inescapably right and nothing actually wrong can ever happen; that all being necessary and sufficient because, and only because, what actually happens is what actually happens and what actually does not happen is what actually does not happen.

Or, nothing actually bad can ever happen because it is right to do what is necessary for learning what would actually be bad if it were actually avoidable; that being the only process through which what is wrong can become avoidable when it has actually become avoidable.

Human spoken and written language was developed in the presence of time-corrupted-learning-based-child-abuse, so that human language words used in ordinary ways have associations of word and meaning which obliterate conscious awareness of the child abuse the words and meaning were developed to conceal.

So, River, I find no fault with you for seemingly finding fault with that damaged person in Newtown, Connecticut, for each and every person now living has been met with child abuse in one way or another, else no fault would be found with anyone.

I hate this news coverage of it. I hate how they use the kids. In one newscast, they were interviewing a kid that was obviously suffering from shock. I hate the pictures they show of the kids being led from the school. Do they have no regard for their privacy? Do they have no decency?

Never mind. I already know the answer to that last question, when it comes to reporting the news, none of them are decent.

My conscience keeps telling me that the media coverage I have observed of this terrible event tends to be abusively damaging to everyone involved, even the people of the media.

On the early morning of February 10, 1996, I had driven past the site where my son and his wife were killed about three hours later, with my daughter, remarking to her about why I was driving about 20 miles per hour in the fog with the emergency flashers on in the hope that no one would run us down.

When, about five hours later, I got to our Illinois home, in Oak Park, as I walked into the living room, the phone rang.

I picked up the phone.

I said, "Hello."

My wife said, "I have terrible news."

I know what it is when terrible news arrives.

Methinks the people of Newton, Connecticut need mercy, not sacrifice.

And also the people of the media.

And everyone else.

What level of freedoms are you going to give up?

There was a newly installed security system at that school, but it didn't work very well.

Do you put metal detectors at all the doors like they do in Israel?

At the probability of this happening. I for one would like to go on blissfully unaware. Minutes after it happened media whores from two different outlets were in my pocket announcing everything they knew or thought they knew.

The ongoing story reveals that the school had a security system that required that somebody inside activate an electric solenoid to release the lock and open the door. The lock was shot off by the perpetrator.

Let us not start the "FREEDOM" arguments. It is too political...

Most schools only have one door unlocked and will not let a person in unless they are a parent or have business at the school.

Aldo, while I agree that the TV coverage is overly emotional and unkind to many people, however, that gets ratings. As sad as that is, there is a huge audience out there that wants to see people crying on TV. It's like OJ Simpson coverage, or any other non-stop TV coverage of bad and sordid things.

People want it and station managers deliver it.

Sad but true. Turn it off the TV and listen to something else on the radio.

I have the same types of haunting memories as anyone else and I do understand how destructive those TV shows are.

I have. I refuse to watch any more coverage. I know all I need to know about it, and watching it only tends to depress me.

Meaning absolutly no disprespect to anyone and trying to brainstorm in a constructive manner, perhaps "Turning it off on the tv", "Refusing to watch anymore coverage", and having a "Heart that can only take so much" opens the door to it happening all over again.

I just saw this. It is possibly good food for thought (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/1 ... 11009.html).

The prohibition on political discussions makes it difficult to discuss this, because two specific, hot button, issues are involved, gun control and how we handle our mentally ill.

I had a grand daughter. She was in the hospital for depression and other mental issues. My daughter begged them not to release her, but they did.

She jumped off a bridge.

Some say this isn't a gun issue, but when the mentally ill have access to assault weapons with 30 round clips, I think it is a gun issue.

Here in Oregon, they closed one of the two remaining mental hospitals in this part of Oregon, leaving only the Oregon State Hospital http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_State_Hospital, built in 1883 as the Oregon State Insane Asylum. It houses mostly inmates convicted of a crime, and doesn't treat anyone under the age of 18. Coincidentally, it's where they filmed One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Anyone that's walked down the streets of any large city will discover that many of the homeless are the mentally ill.

I've worked for mental health services in Portland and in Texas running group homes for the mentally ill, and I think, as a society, we could be doing a better job than we are.

I'll leave it at that.
