Hello Cainanite,

Cainanite (imported) wrote: Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:56 pm Though you may not have found any therapeutic value in sharing your stories, I found therapeutic value in reading them. The Choirboy remains one story that sticks with me.

That one was my first, and writing it certainly was highly therapeutic for me too! I poured myself into it and all over it, so to say. Eventually I might write a follow-up. Of course my heroes have grown up in the meantime, so it might be interesting to explore what they have been doing in all these years...

But it's also the one with the most spelling mistakes! Since then I learned a little more English, but still not enough to write error-free.

Cainanite (imported) wrote: Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:56 pm They fear that stories of this nature are going to encourage people to commit terrible acts against innocent people in the real world.

If the business order of the day is about eliminating triggers for violent acts, then first and foremost the violent TV and cinema movies need to be banned, and news should show only good, or at least tame, items. Then we need to scan the libraries and burn lots of books. After a loooong time destroying information, and even some pretty valuable art, the cleaners-uppers might indeed reach the EA, but pretty much at the end of the process, I think.

And of course, violent people will still commit violent acts, with or without external triggers. Those people carry it inside them.

Cainanite (imported) wrote: Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:56 pm Keep writing Il Musico. We need your contributions. Your stories have incredible value here, as do all contributors' stories. For me personally, your stories have been incredibly valuable.

Good to know. I will occasionally write some more. My present story has been in the works for a long time, and I feel no hurry to finish it, but suddenly I will get a spurt of creativity and finish it in one sitting. That has happened before, with some of my other stories.

Cainanite (imported) wrote: Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:56 pm If you'd like to submit a corrected version of your story to me, I'll see what I can do to fix your originally submitted story. Send me a PM and we'll exchange emails.

Thanks. When I have a corrected version, I will contact you, but it's no priority now. First thing is getting all the still missing stories back online, and normalizing the story submission process. Improving/correcting stories is secondary to that.

Cainanite (imported) wrote: Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:56 pm When we decided to edit the stories, we agreed we wouldn't touch grammar errors in the text, or spelling errors in characters' speech. We didn't want to destroy the authors intent. Therefore we let a lot of errors through, because we don't want to change your art beyond what you originally wrote.

I appreciate that. Some people have translated some of my stories, into languages I do speak myself, and there are some things that the translators got wrong, or at least that I would have said differently in that other language. I still appreciate the translations, given that I'm too lazy to do them myself! So it's good that you don't alter stories too much during editing, because similar things could happen.

With the way the editing is set up now, you could just paste the new text into the old story file.

Hey Guys I really appreciated your comments so I thought I would add my two cents worth. I too thought I was a total freak until I discovered the archive. It has been therapeutic and it has been an outlet for these castration fantasies of mine which will not be going away anytime soon. Trust me I have tried suppressing them but you cannot go against your own nature.

People are going to have sex and fantasize regardless of what the Catholic Church and the police have to say about it.

I think it is much better to have an outlet here, where no one gets hurt than to have people try to act things out in the real world.

I think it is important that we keep the register/login feature. As previously stated we live in a world where depictions of horrific violence are quite acceptable but anything even remotely related to sex is a cause for outrage. And I'm sure there are people out there who would happily shut down the EA just because they don't like it. Lets not make it easy for them.

Cheers

Mandler

I have a quick question for the Fiction Archive folks, but first a big thanks for all the hard work coding and editing!

So here's the issue: I've inadvertently used up all of my favorite slots and cannot seem to un-favorite anything to free up space for new favorites. It seems like I was able to do this a few months ago, but I may be remembering incorrectly. When I go to a specific story I've already favorited and click the favorite icon at the bottom, it doesn't toggle the setting off. Is there something I'm missing? Is there an overall control panel for that sort of thing?

Thanks again!

I am also having the issue in not being able to remove favorite stories to make room for more. Also, the archive does not appear to be crossreferenced fully. The alpabetical story index does not have all the stories that say the alpabetical author listing does. Not sure if its the same vice-versa but just thought I would call attention to this.

I would also like to see the login bug fixed, a search engine attached, and a new stories section added once new submitions were allowed again.

Thank you for all your hard work as volunteers.

I have a question: will there be a search function in the archiv?

This is not a complaint or a demand. I have some suggestions that you might want to use when/if you have time.

The ratings now consist of one to five graphic stars plus the number of votes. I would love to be able to hover my mouse pointer over the stars and get the average vote to two (or even three) significant figures. (For example 4.37 or 3.81.)

Now I can select "a Gay index" OR "a Minor index" OR "a nullification index" OR "a Penectomy index". I would love to be able to get indexes with simple Boolean expressions. The only operators I think are needed are "AND" and "OR". For example: "Gay AND Minor AND (Penectomy OR Nullification)" "&" is often used for "AND". "|" is often used for "OR".

I hope I have not upset anyone by making these suggestions. That was not my intent.

I used up all my spaces also. But, I was told that as soon ans things slowed down, the program would be changed to allow that function. The only other way is to have Kristof or one of the moderators to remove ALL of the stories you have there now and start over selecting stories.

a flexible search engine like the one elephantube(used to be lemmingtube) uses would hit the spot. quotes search for phrases(eg. "penis guillotine", a personal fave), a vertical bar( | , found next to enter key) is a boolean "or"(castrated|nutted) & a space is their "and"(penis guillotine, no quotes this time). u can even do a combo, eg. (penis|cock|dick "animal decapitator"|guillotine). <sigh> i really, really miss the old archives' search engine...

I can't speak for talula, (as he is the one making all the changes.) but as I understand it, all the changes of this nature are coming. talula's original intent was to have a very complete search for all the stories. Rather than waiting until he had everything designed, he decided to release what he had, so we could get the stories back in circulation as quickly as possible.

Since then, it has been a matter of finding the time to make any changes. He DOES have a life outside the EA. (I might not, but some people do, and I envy them.) His biggest concern with the site has been to transfer all the old stories over and merge them into the new site. The time he might use to make changes are consumed by merging sometimes almost a thousand stories into the new site.

Keep those ideas coming. He can pick and choose from them if he wants to. Just remember the old archive engine took years to coalesce. It was pieced together from scraps and dark magic. The new archive will take time too. Mostly due to the simple availability of our chief programmer.

The old archive simply couldn't stay any longer. It wasn't viewable on modern platforms, it was no longer updateable, and many of the stories were unreadable.

Good news! we are about 60% finished with transferring over all the old stories. A few more months and we should be free and clear. The end is in sight. At my last count there are only about 4800 stories left to edit. We started with almost 11,000!

We are getting there day by day.

Good things are coming.
