Nothing has change, was not much to watch back in the 50's even less now.

In those days we were taught you do NOT go in the water without a "buddy"!

My circa 60 year old friend goes swimming as he often does at the gym pool and is found underwater. Cardiac fibrillation was quickly converted to regular in a shocking manner. He is now at the hospital CCU on a respirator, sedated & cooled into a coma for a day or two.
:realpisse the water buddy system is passe.
Although it certainly could have prevented this most serious happening.
In "the day" we did it right. And didn't drown in the ocean over a little rip tide either.
Just swim parallel to shore and come in again.
