Memories of Chocolate.
Normally I would turn my nose up at Whitmans sampler. Especially at ten bucks for a 12 oz double air stacked box. See's is cheaper by far. And Whitman's is just barely passable as chocolate to a chocoholic.
But it was on discount for $2.50 so I bought it. Without using the guide on the lid I remembered the pieces and they are good. Not great chocolate or even confections but, maybe because they use to be a big deal so many decades ago.
Never could stand Russell Stover.

I am not a Chocoholic I can go hours even days without it.
It is not true that I can sit and eat a bag, 24oz bag of M&M peanuts in one sitting.
Baby Ruth is my favorite candy bar.
See's Butter Cream is my favorite chocolate, it is about time for my son to send me another box.
Fudge
sigh
Time to go to the store,
River

A link to the agreed upon by River & Moi,
See's Candy, looks like their prices went up but, still a good deal. $16 to $20 dollars a pound is half the price of Godiva or Taucher.
http://www.sees.com/
I noticed they sell whole boxes of raspberry and a few other cream centers including their Bordeaux, but not the buttercream. The scotchmellow are good too and sold as a whole box. Dark chocolate. Those ordering are welcome to send me a surprise box too. PM me for my address.

See's Candy is one of Warren Buffet's businesses. He knows a good thing when he sees one.

Have you ever had some See's candy?
My father was a mail carrier and his route was the Hollywood Hills, this area was and still is very rich, my dad had his route there 37 years, in those days mail carriers did not get paid much and the people on my dads route would load him up at X-mas, he would get several bottles of fine booze, my parents did not drink, many unique gifts, and we would end up with 35 to 40 lbs of See's candy, they also gave cash, enough that what he got paid the property taxes for the year our Christmas with a bit left over.
So you see, See's candy holds a special meaning and place for me, it represents the best of times.

I've never tasted See's. Wish I had. Sounds like the best. I suppose I could order some, but my waistline and my diabetes would object.

That's because See's is a California thing.
They have branched out a bit with stores in
ARIZONA
CALIFORNIA
COLORADO
HAWAII
IDAHO
ILLINOIS
MINNESOTA
MISSOURI
NEW MEXICO
NEVADA
OREGON
UTAH
WASHINGTON

I guess the closest fresh candy store outlet for you is in Illinois.
For years Consumer Reports never rated See's. When they did it rated Excellent, and a Best Buy. Godiva was only very good.
I will not vouch for See's online and that store freshness I am accustomed to.

California since age 5.
Their hard chocolate and butterscotch suckers are good too.
A brick of English Toffee is the best. Take a large piece because it cannot make small pieces, only crumble.
A can of Almond Royal, cello wrapped almonds surrounded in a chocolaty soft confection.
But their fudge is too nutty and lacks fudginess for nutiness
.

Moi is right, See's is the best, but you must go in the store and get a hand packed fresh box.
I would not trust mail order plus I don't think they give you much of a choice.
My all time favorite is Butter Creams, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
