I was just about to have my garden tilled and it rained again. Back to the swamp. Maybe I should plant rice.

All I have been trying to grow is new grass. With all the excessive rain (my garage flooded yesterday) my seed is just washing away. I would have covered it in burlap, but we already used up what we had. And then today, contractors tore up my boulevard putting in fibre-optic stuff. I don't have a yard anymore, I have a mud pit.

Well, our weeds (aka yard) is growing great, looks like average height is up to at least a foot or so... Towards the end of the year it is likely to get over the height of my van....

You know it's going good when the local real estate agents start leaving notes in the mailbox asking for permission to mow it for you... 😄 Hasn't happened yet this year, but has in the past...

We are going for a mention in "Better Hayfields & Jungles"....

I have a hayfield, too. Lawn clover, fleabane, violets, and other assorted wildflowers. I also have baby rabbits, so I'm not going to mow for a while. I just mow paths here and there. Drives the neighbors crazy!

Freshly cut grass is a valuable food for herbivores.

I would like to hope that it does not disappear, but goes to feed livestock...

Earlier this year I saw a fox in the yard. At other times I've seen raccoons, turkeys, rabbits, and once deer, plus the usual squirrels and birds - lots of different critters. Not sure what all the plants are, but plenty of clover, violets and other wild flowers. I am also trying to get some mushrooms going, I have a couple big piles of mostly hardwood planer and jointer sawdust that I buried some bricks of grain-spawn that had been used for growing trumpet mushrooms in.... So far it hasn't done much, but I have hopes. I do have a maple stump that is growing some nice turkey-tail which I hope to harvest soon...
