So if I throw the breaker and leave for 30 days, then turn it on when I come home, I still have a bill for $40 waiting for me, plus state tax, plus "power cost adjustment", which is money arbitrarily added on for power I didn't use. Then the bill is rounded to the nearest dollar. These fees are often more than the amount of power I use.

If I had hit the billion dollar lottery, one of my first goals would have been to use the money to destroy this coop.

Of course, that was after I bought the Ford dealer and burned it down. My initial dream was to continue buying up dealerships and burning them down until I ran out of money.

:-\ Paolo why are you so much Anger with Ford dealer?:)

Paolo is an upscale kinda guy. He has no appreciation for the simple, practical things in life. For example, upscale cars have heated seats for Midwest winters. Ford pickups have heated tailgates to make pushing them in Midwest winters more comfortable. Simple things like that leave him cold.

Have you ever attempted to put an oil pan gasket on a 200X Ranger or Explorer/Ex. Sport Trac with the 4.0L engine and 4wd?!

I am not "upscale". I don't like things like power windows/locks, and all the bells & whistles. It's just something else that can break.😄

And now back to the weather. The forecast for the south/central IN/IL area calls for temperatures in the low 60's tonight, but... tomorrow the fun in the sun begins as a new heat dome moves in over us for a week or so. Forecast highs later in the week are for 100F+ plus humidity, with heat indexes expected to hit 108F or higher.

Last night, the overnight low was in the mid 50's. The temperature in the house was 59F this morning, according to the digital memory thermometer I have for a low inside.

I normally don't run the central air, but it looks like I'm going to have to this week. It will be interesting to see how it affects the bill - a week of 220-powered AC. Even with the power out for nearly 6 days, my bill only dropped by $1.

You have earned your spurs. I agree with you about stuff. My old Silverado even had manual windows. My Dodge 1500 Workman has electric windows, but it was as basic as I could get. What really iritates me is it does not have locking hubs, so twice I have had to call for help and wait because I got stuck in a totally stupid situation where one wheel was in something soft (once sand, once snow) and all the power went to the spinning wheel. Frustrating to go from 4 wheel to 1 wheel drive.

Give me a horse, a VW or a DC-3 any day.

At the time, having a mechanic friend with a welder, we took the '93 Dakota Sport and welded the rear end into a full time positrack. That truck, for 2wd, had way too much power to be spinning one wheel.

The heat index was 103F here today, hardly a breeze, and murky sunshine. The air you can wear. Now it's getting foggy, and the twilight was an eerie shade of purple. I watered the pumpkin patch, as some leaves were yellowing. Somehow, I have a nice white pumpkin that I didn't plant, and plan to render down into a pie. That's IF my little garden friend doesn't eat it. They're already into the tomatoes, so put all the waste stuff in a pile to lure them away. Spent the better part of the day peeling and seeding cucumbers, melons, and tomatoes to either eat, cook & save, or freeze for chili this winter.

I have managed to get a strange, hybrid pepper created by a bee here last year. I had a Calico Ornamental - a variegated purple, white, green, gray foliage pepper with small purple fruits that ripe to red. The Scoville rating is about 28k. Well, one of the seeds produced a plant that is not so variegated, and has fatter green fruits so far turning purple. My brave neighbor rated it at about Habanero heat. We've been happy with the yield of the Time Bomb/Cherry Bomb peppers.

I think 3750 Scoville is a bit conservative for them, however.

My plain old Bell Peppers aren't getting very large, despite all the care. I think I will harvest them green, eat a few, and freeze the rest for chili, along with the Jalapenos. My Havasu plants haven't produced like last year. https://bonnieplants.com/products/havasu-hot-pepper but they've been worth it. I don't have much luck over-wintering pepper plants, but now and then one makes it. I picked 2 small Pimentos on Christmas Day 2022 from my indoor plant, which died in May when I took it outside! This week is probably going to finish off the garden, with a high Thursday at 100F or more plus humidity.

So far we have been having one of the rainiest summers on record, or so it's claimed... We have been having a bit of a battle w/ a tree company, possibly self inflicted, as we were dumb enough to fall for the "Discount because we already have equipment in the neighborhood" scam... However it was work that needed to be done for the most part...

Some folks came by yesterday and started, according to the GF, but I wasn't around, and it wasn't real obvious what they did... However today we had two guys w/ a 75' arm bucket truck that got about 80% of the cutting done, but no cleanup. Supposedly they will have another crew w/ "Climbers" that will come and get the stuff they couldn't reach w/ the truck, and do the cleanup...

I had a lot of fun watching them, it was amazing what he could do with that bucket to reach things...

Of course then I had to call the Fire Dept to get rescued - I had to move my van and parked it in a spot where I thought I had solid ground... I got out OK, but getting in the drive wheels sank in just before they got onto the ramp...😠🙋 Our neighbors weren't home so I had to call the FD and get a truck w/ full crew to literally push me 6".... Was nice day though so not all bad...

I have also decided I need to get new tires on my van (going to be about $200 each OUCH!) the fronts aren't going to pass inspection, and I've been nursing one of the rears for months - it picked up a 'non-repairable' puncturing object, and I tried putting a big shot of "SLIME" sealant in it, which has kept the leakage down to the point where I was only needing to pump it up every few weeks... Lately it has gotten worse... So today I took advantage of the nice weather to pump it up w/ more slime, hopefully it will last for a few more weeks while I do tire shopping...

How boring can you guys be? Talking about the weather all month means you (all of you) need to get a life!

He forgets that some of us have to deal with weather while having a Life....

I had to deal w/ it a lot last week while participating in the 5th Adaptive Defensive Shooting Summit - a really fun shooting event for persons w/ disabilities @ the Sig Sauer Academy in NH, we got rained out part way through the Wednesday range activities, but Thursday-Saturday were good weather and I even got to make up the stuff we weren't able to do on Wednesday...

Huge amounts of fun, probably sent over 1,000 rounds downrange over the 4 days...
