After experiencing Russian winters firsthand - no, you probably don't

- Snow! white! fluffy! pristine white snow!

- And all this wet, sticky cold muck right into your face

And sometimes it is not so much cold and snow, that gets you, but how city services deal with it ("the saltier - the better!..." and now you are walking through wet and icy path at -5°C...)

PS. Feels like extended autumn here, +10°C to 14°C here, the only occasional problem is fog... no Fog Mistović Transdanubian (yes, from capital F). It almost looks alive and worthy of Stephen King's novel at times

JAKARTA, Dec 4 (Reuters) - A volcano erupted in Indonesia on Sunday spewing a cloud of ash 15 km into the sky and forcing the evacuation of nearly 2,000 people, authorities said, as they issued their highest warning for the area in the east of Java island.

There were no immediate reports of any casualties from the eruption of the Semeru volcano and Indonesia's transport ministry said that there was no impact on air travel but notices had been sent to two regional airports for vigilance.

"Most roads have been closed since this morning and now it is raining volcanic ash and it has covered the view of the mountain," community volunteer Bayu Deny Alfianto told Reuters by telephone from near the volcano.

My S. California seasons have been disrupted.

Cold, 48F at coldest. Hopefully will add chill hours

to my apricot, pecan and plum trees.

And 2" of rain over 2 days & 2 storms.

How are members faring that are in the wake of this winter storm, The Solstice Storm, as they're calling it?

Things are fine here, if not cold. Only 1-2" inches of snow, but some wind, and a high temp of 0F today!

How am I faring? Took a jacket with me today but never bothered putting it on (eat youy heart out Ern)..

It's so cold, I have ice growing on the insides of some of my old house windows, and one of them actually split. I walked in, and wondered, why do I feel wind in here, and why is it snowing IN the house?!

As you live in Indiana, I can confidently say that's not snow. You're in the upside-down.

We got a ton of rain and lots of wind Thursday and Friday, but at least it was rain and fairly warm. We would have been really buried if it had been snow. (Thank the Gods for global warming!) Friday afternoon the rain stopped and the temperature dropped, but there was enough time for the roads to be mostly clean and dry, so no ice that I saw. Driving home around midnight I encountered a light to moderately heavy snow storm a couple miles to either side of Hanscomb AFB, which is the local weather reporting site closest to our house, but clear to either side of it...

Still very cold as I'm writing, but the heat pump and furnace are dealing w/ it nicely...
