Good to see you posting. You might enjoy Highway 50 across central Nevada. A couple of historic mining towns that are alive and well. There is one stretch east of Ely that really puts human existence in the context of geologic scale. Think dust in the wind kind of thing.

I used to live in Winnemucca, NV, and have visited some of the ghost towns in Arizona and Nevada. Bodie, CA is a great one. I've always been particularly fascinated with ghost towns.

Ah Winnemucca! Best thing was eating breakfast at the Griddle and then quickly jumping in your car to use the bathroom at the Red Lion Casino (now other name?)

My stint in Winnemucca was from 1976 to 1977 or there about. I went there from Alaska because my kids were living with their mother who was married to a BLM guy. I got a job as a juvenile probation officer, lol. The small town politics were wild. My boss, the Chief JPO was at war with the police department and the Chief of police who was then living with the CJPO's ex-wile, while he was carrying on an affair with one of his ex JPOs, who was married to one of the good old boys, most were Basques, in town.

They finally managed to run him out, and when they hired a new CJPO, I quit and left Winnemucca. Passed through it once since, but been a while and don't remember exactly when it was. Town was looking pretty dead then, but I hear it's picked up since.

Kids kept us busy. They complained about not having anything to do in Winnemucca - before Netflix and all, only a rundown theater and bowling ally in town for entertainment for kids, so they turned to booze, pot, and raising hell.

Have to go to Las Vegas in June and hope to detour through Winnemucca.

Try to plan overnight there so you can have berry crepes at the Griddle.

In the low desert yesterday and today. Relatively modest (by August standards) 95 F. Heading up east slope of Sierras today and tomorrow (yippee).

It was 65 and partly sunny today, only mild wind for a change, but ANOTHER frost advisory for tonight. This is getting really old. The past few years, it's been safe to rule May out of the growing season chart.
