If I had a car I would. The food shelves are miles from where I live and since turning 70 I find I can only walk six blocks daily. Good idea though.

See if their is an elder ride program available to get you there and back. Maybe landlord could help

I asked landlord, he said he might drop by tomorrow. My insurance company provides rides but for medical places only.

You need to check with your county's Senior Information Center. They do provide help in such circumstances. Their telephone number is (800) 510-2020.

I called the county and they offered me two programs: (1) they said to find a neighbor to take me and they'll reimburse them 40 cents a pile. (2) They have a taxi program = if I put up $40 the county will match it with another $40. Neither actually helps me. My neighbors all take the bus I might have $2.00 in my account but not $40. Thank you anyways though.

Do they have a "Meals on Wheels Program" in your area. They bring fully cooked meals to seniors without transportation 5 days a week at noon. You have to fend for yourself on Saturday and Sundays. If they have such a program it could be very benefical for you. One fully cooked meal per day would help a lot. Maybe Jesus know who to call for such services in California.

They did away with Meals On Wheels in San Bernardino - our city filed for bankruptcy. Riverside, the next town over, has the program. If only I lived in Riverside

Years ago, my mom lived on meals on wheels for two years.

Just a suggestion. When you do have food money you might be able to stash dry food such as oatmeal for when you run out. You may not like what you can afford to save like that but you will get some nourishment and may even be able keep you blood sugar stable if you choose the right (dry, nasty) food. And again try the food shelves. Some churches and synagogues have very flexible food programs --FLO--
