There's Always The Weather

We've had a wet summer so far. It will clear up and warm up for a few days and the reverse course. RIght now it is 57 degrees and raining. Arg! Fine if you're a duck. Which I'm not, I was born and grew up in San Fernando valley part of LA where it is almost constant sunshine.

just rode into the Phoenix valley. 102 at the moment. Warm considering I left San Diego's 67 just before noon

I lived in beautiful Yuma back in early 80s. Great coming back thru mountains from weekend in San Diego, but then you start down and it gets hotter and hotter and you swear it cannot get any hotter and it does. Pickup did not have AC. Coming back was so miserable that I decided it was better to just stay and accept my fate.

Meanwhile temps have been easing higher, but not as bad as past years. Thursday was breezy and cooler and yesterday was one of those blessed days with scattered showers all morning. Nothing heavy, just enough to encourage nappercize in the coolness.

as opposed to now, at least 4 decades later, PLEASE

I Remember those rainy times in the fifties when my

rain hood scraped my chin waiting for the school bus.

And I remember when burnt hill sides were seeded with rye grass

to help prevent mud slides.

YES I believe it worked. And Rye Grass has not taken over native species.

Yes I do however it was a mile and it up hill both ways because there was a hill in the middle. If we mist the bus we had too home do other mile out the back way though the woods and go over the railway bridge to the bus stop.

Temps have backed off a bit this week to the high 80s with monsoon storm cells and dramatic skies every afternoon. Talked with a guy in Detroit. It was hotter there than here. Love this weather!

Regret No Replies of Weather In The Before Time

The "marine layer" continues after a brief absence.

Comes in during early AM hours, gone by 11 AM

Keeps my world significantly cooler than a few miles inland.

Front yard corn, 5' - 6' tall.

It be "Mexican" it produces sweet ears over generations.

Same corn in the back yard, hardly 1' tall. Maybe the ocean exposure.

Mesh bags of dirty, oily dog hair from kind neighbors and

Critter Ridder or similar products, WORK!

It's hot again here. We had a good rain night before last, though.

I've set August 1 as the culling date for the garden. Anything that isn't fruiting by then is getting pulled.

I leave all the gardening to the princess. When it goes wrong, don't blame me. We've had some high heat and humidity. Sent the princess off to northern Minnesota. He's younger, he can handle more crap. That also means 3-4 days of peace and quiet (unless Pete shows up -- hope he does). My lawn looks like a field of crab grass; I hesitate to spray it -- I will end up with a barren field instead.

I'll just sit back in the air conditioned house, enjoying a beverage or two, doing some leather work (currently it is belts), and enjoy the heat from a distance.

Ah well, I have a case of good red wines to deal with. Bring it on...

I have harvested 2 nice zucchinis if you're feeling lonely. I can ship one.

My first jalapeno was 4", but it was disappointing from a heat standpoint.

I also planted several tomatoes over the spot where the old shithouse used to stand. We'll see what happens there.
