There is something that completes the set of subatomic particles as described by the STANDARD MODEL and it is called (for better or worse) the Higgs BOson and it expresses the Higgs Field which is what we call gravity.

And I think calling it the "God Particle" is atrocious.

You heard the joke about the Higgs Boson that goes into a catholic church and asks a priest how he could have Mass without him.

you really have to think about that for it to be funny.

Seems to me that the Higgs Boson joke works no less well for "High Church Episcopalians." As in the Protestant Episcopal Church.

Me bad?

River. Not to worry.

The internet has energy back ups too.

And not off one trunk line.

"They" need to be back-up'ed from file losses, etc.

Likewise the various purveyors of the internet.

Anyone seeing spectacular or unusual Northern Lights tonite? Really.

I wonder 💡

How does an American destroyer collide with an oil tanker

if it is not aiming for it?

I was at the (Godsend good) chiropractor this AM in my folks' tiny town. Got treated to the most wonderfull muscle massage and adjustment i've ever had - a mere $40 for 90 minutes - I'd have gladly paid twice that. And a lecture about every Goddamned right wing and libertarian consipiracy theory to be heard. Undoubtedly there will be one arising from this incident too - no doubt Iran engineered it.

Since the article did not say which vessel was at fault and since the tanker was Panamanian flagged I have a thought about who might have been at fault. --FLO-- (licensed Pilot and Master)

You know two ships passing in the night, one kisses the other then all hell breaks loose. Yep sounds like Iran needs to be blamed if for no other reason then they were near by.

The article says that the US ship has a gaping hole in its starboard side

Since there is no damage to the Iranian ship, I would guess that the prow of the Iranian ship hit the starboard side of the US ship.

Does that tell us anything?

By Jonathan Sunderman, AP

The U.S. Navy's guided-missile destroyer is seen damaged after it collided with a Japanese-owned oil tanker just outside the Strait of Hormuz on, Sunday.

The collision left a breach about 10 feet by 10 feet in the starboard side of USS Porter. No one was injured on either vessel, the U.S. Navy said in a statement.

The collision with the Panamanian-flagged and Japanese-owned bulk oil tanker M/V Otowasan happened about 1 a.m. local time. Photos released by the Navy showed workers standing amid twisted metal and other debris hanging down from the hole.

The cause of the incident is under investigation, the Navy said, though the collision was not "combat related." There were no reports of spills or leakages from either the USS Porter or the Otowasan, the Navy said.

A USN Destroyer should be able to avoid collision with an oil tanker.

An Air Craft Carrier is another situation. More like the tanker in handling.

But, a Destroyer unable to evade an oil tanker. Wow!

I don't know enough sailing to make any judgment other than someone didn't give the right of way, I think.

I mean, I'm reading MASTER AND COMMANDER but that doesn't cover the subject. Saw the movie too. Still no help.

Saw Mutiny on the Bounty - no help there.

Same with Poseidon Adventure (original and remake) - no help.

Sailed a dinghy with a sail once. My brother capsized it.

Rode the Good Ship Lollipop across the Three Rivers at Point State Park. No help there either (And behave. Calm those dirty minds)

Possibly Uncle Flo could help.
