I guess it's timely to have this discussion on the message board because it is this time of year we ten to have an increase in home invasions, and that is just my anecdotal opinion of course. This evening at dinner my Mom told me that there had been an armed break-in in our neighborhood. So my Mom's boyfriend who is a Vietnam veteran asked if I would be willing to use a gun to protect my Mom if the same thing happened at our house...
Well, this is a big deal to me because I left the US Army after only 28 days of active duty because the idea of putting holes in another person is so far beyond any thing I could ever consider doing. I don't even like having these things in the house let alone consider using one. However if it was the only way to save my mother's life, and all of the other options including doing nothing at all, would not suffice, I have to think I would be able to do it. Of course I would still consider all the other options first.
I certainly do hope it never comes down to that, because in addition to not want to pop holes in people, the door lies between my room and where the weapons are stored. SO getting to them might be a little complicated if the need arose.
