Re: Bridge Collapse in Minneapolis

My heart goes out to all the families of the victims. We're lucky it wan't worse. Heaven help us from having another bridge collapse over the Mississippi at Memphis or especially below - so much more opportunity for deaths.
The reason the bridge collapsed will probably be a system that supports tax cuts over maintaining infra-structure. It's cheaper in the long run to build a quality structure, maintain it and make any needed structural changes than have to make "emergency repairs" and play catch-up because of failure to maintain - mandated neglect..
Maybe this will make the public rethink how we build and maintain all infra-structure - not just bridges alone.
I use the Galveston Ferry to cross the bay, but there are all sorts of high flyovers on major interchanges in Houston and all sorts of small bridges over creeks and bayous and always the bridge over the ICC. And there are lots of bridges to cross when traveling E/W on IH 10 or further south.
