Yes it was the pubmed article I read. So that's what I'm going to do.

You ask about the 'eunuch calm' Chesleyt. I'm surprised you haven't experienced it. I tried cyproterone acetate a few years back and although I couldn't cope with the hot flushes I was experiencing I liked the feeling of relaxation that cam over me as my testosterone faded away. The felt the same calm when Finasteride was taking effect, but in a less exaggerated way. On half dose of Finasteride now, and I was telling my girlfriend just this evening that I'm feeling relaxed. I would probably be happy to stay on Finasteride if it wasn't for the somewhat disturbing warning of an increased risk to prostate cancer, so I'm wondering about another way to reduce my testosterone more safely.

I was on HRT before my first testicle was removed and my testosterone test came back 2100 ng and the doctor had me stop taking it. I told him I was taking hgh every day and we figured out what it was stimulating my damaged testicles. After 2 months of no testosterone I was having trouble with hot flashes night sweats and confusion so I restarted taking the testosterone again. During the time I was off I was grieving the loss of my testicle because I didn't expect to loose it. I did feel more emotional during that time which was nice being on psych meds for so long has taken away my feelings and the only ones I can experience are the negative ones. Hopefully this time it will be different I'm no longer on the pain meds that messed me up mentally and I'm in counseling. I'm trying to find a mentor who has had similar experience as I have but the only resource I have for is the local cancer center hopefully someone will help me.

After reading more about Finasteride I realise the elevated risk to prostate cancer with this drug is about the possibility of a cancer going undetected for longer due to PSA levels being lowered by Finasteride, but it doesn't mean that Finasteride increases incidence of cancer.
I'm still doing okay on 2.5mg Finasteride daily, although I think at this dose it doesn't control my prostate so well (urine flow was better when on 5mg) so I might go back up to the full 5mg dose, or maybe try cyproterone again.

In a few days time I will have done 6 weeks on 2.5mg Finasteride daily, then I intend to try something different. Right now I feel okay. My BPH urinary symptoms: I'm getting up a few times in the night but peeing okay. Sex drive is good but cock is slow to erect and not as sensitive (it takes me a long time to reach orgasm and my ejaculate is smaller and thinner.) Not sure if I want to stop the hormone suppressant only to have to start again. I'm thinking I might try cyproterone to see how the effects differ from Finasteride. Or maybe go back on to full dose (5mg) Finasteride to see how I get on with it now that my body is more familiar with it. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I couldn't take it and had a button turp done last Thursday and it was a piece of cake. I went I was put to sleep woke up in my room with folley catheter in very little discomfort but I still took the tordol every 8 hours had some bladder spasms early in the morning the next day felt like pinching in my bladder. The doctor came in at 5 am talked to me about how to procedure went and left instructions with the nurse to remove the catheter and IV and get n me up and walking. I was told when I could urinate to let them know so they could scan my bladder and see that it was emptying all the way and it was. I drank lots of water so I would urinate got scanned then ordered breakfast. Time came for pain meds and I changed to tylenol then and only needed it until the following morning. Ordered lunch and ate it was released at 2:30 pm walked to the parking garage got into the car and went home bed rest for a couple of days and no lifting over 10 lbs for 2 weeks. Had slight burning when I started urinating for 2 days passed a few small blood clots and urine was pink for 3 days. I've been oft the last 3 days shopping to the laundry mat and the doctors tomorrow not the urologist but the endocrinologist. I highly recommend this procedure I no longer get up all night to urinate I'm off 2 of my 3 meds and will be off the last on the 18th when I see the urologist. Best thing I ever did for my slf

I'm glad you're getting on so well Cheslelyt. You're deliberately lowering your sex drive (is that right?) so I guess you're not worrying about sexual side effects of TURP? My urologist offered me TURP and said that it is unlikely to affect my erection and some of his patients even report that their erections were improved by it! I dare say it does depend somewhat on the expertise of the surgeon, and he might well be very good at it, but I'm 'reading between the lines', and being circumspect. I'm still reading about the alternative surgical prostate treatments, but in the meantime I'm treating mine by starving it of DHT.

ok i couldn't take either of the DHT drugs because i had a adverse reaction to both of them. i just wanted to tell about button turp it's nothing like standard turp it doesn't cut with electric but uses plasma energy that won't damage the nerves and is able to remove more prostate tissue because there is virtually no bleeding the only sexual side effect is you could have dry orgasm where there is no ejaculate. there is information on the internet and videos of the procedure. i would never have had a conventional turp with the myriad of complication my body is important to me. the reason i've stopped taking testosterone was it was causing severe mental problems with me, and i'm already disabled because of severe bipolar depression, anxiety disorder and skitzo-effective disorder. i'm on 4 psychiatric medications for treatment of them the synthetic testosterone aggravated the conditions. i am seeking alternative treatment.

Until you said you were about to have button TURP I had not heard of it. I knew about conventional (hot wire) TURP, and holmium laser turp, and more recently I learned of urolift, and Rezum, which seems to be a sort of steam injection. I've also read about PAE and I briefly discussed all these alternatives with my urologist, but he seemed to be saying that none are any better than the conventional TURP, which he does. However, my girlfriend and I came away feeling that we need to do more research and in the meantime I manage my prostate with drugs. I will look up button turp though, and many thanks for your suggestion.
I can understand how testosterone might cause you problems. High sex drive and no erection would be very frustrating. That's one of the reasons I'm worried about TURP, as I realise it often causes impotence. I don't fancy being left impotent but randy. So I prefer the idea of either a 'fixed' prostate and plenty of sex drive and potency, or lower if my potency is going to be affected I'd prefer not to feel too randy. My girlfriend is reducing her HRT at the moment so if we both end up with reduced sex drive it won't be too bad. The only worry with low sex hormones is that of loss of bone density. Luckily, there are non hormonal measures against that, but prevention is better than cure so you need to stay on top of that one.

I'm talking high dose calcium and vitamin d twice a day. And will be doing weight lifting to help me keep the bone healthy. I had the urolift 3 year ago and it didn't last a year and a half before I was back on meds again so I wouldn't do that again it was a waist of my time and money and it hurts pretty bad.
